Fortunately, it's a pretty simple device, so the lackluster instructions aren't that big of a deal. You do need to know what you're doing -- you're not going to walk around with this four feet of the ground like a dowsing rod. It's a pinpointer. We use it two ways, and it works great for both. First, we sweep the ground with a full size metal detector. Our full-size is a bit at the economy end, so it's not the most precise instrument. Once it detects something, the pinpointer is able to help us locate a lot more specifically, which saves some digging time.Second method is to run a longer tether through the lanyard loop, let the pinpointer dangle from your arm or belt while you're walking. We've actually dragged it through streams this way, and walked over solid ground with it. It's pretty durable; sometimes it bounces off the ground for a few steps, but doesn't show any signs of damage. This is a great way to detect with it when the full-size detector isn't with us, and we're not worried at all about this breaking; it's a nicely robust little device.

The unit itself works ok. Problem is in 2 weeks put in 2 9v batteries in addition to the original it came with so a total of 3 batteries in 2 weeks. I would not buy again because of this. I ordered a Garret Pro and a WAY better unit and locates way better. If you only want to detect a couple times of year this is ok. If you detect any more than that put the investment into a good one.

Inexpensive but very good quality! This has helped to pinpoint the items I dig up. Neighbors spilled a bucket (about 1000) of screws in their driveway that is gravel. We used a magnet and sight to find most but I got my metal detector and found a lot more but THIS found the rest that were stuck between rocks and I doubt we could have found them all without this! I've used it in the fields around my home and found so much I would have never found with the larger metal detector because it tells you exactly where to dig. I've used it to find items as deep as 8 inches and it's worked perfectly! Definitely recommend this!

Used this while we were at our lake, and it was so much fun finding random metal things on the bottom. Easy to use and light weight. I liked having the strapped and it being water proof was a bonus! It has a little pouch that can attach to your belt or waist band. Used this item for hours and the battery is still going strong!

This is a great pinpointer, it centers quickly, low power use, perfect for and older metal detector like me to use. Orange is great so you dont loose it setting it down somewhere.The cable clips really helps too!. If you are metal detecting this is the right pointer for you!
