We are trying to build a fully solar + battery powered home... so we knew we wanted to ditch our natural gas pool heater for a heat pump model.We decided on the Dr. Infrared DR-00HP because it is a variable inverter system that is as efficient as possible.Even in the winter, we can heat our 580 gallon hot tub from 57F to 100F in about 6 hours and uses 20kWh of energy. A non heat pump model would be 61kWh of energy so that's a COP of 3 in the winter.in the summer i've seen it above 4, on warmer days. Obviously, if you're in a rush to heat the pool, a natural gas heater can't be beat, heating that same hot tub in about 1 hour, but now with solar, we can heat the pool and hot tub and do it for free!So if you want to go low carbon, and save money, solar plus pool heat pump is an awesome choice. We were spending about $300 per month on natural gas for the pool, and now that is entirely removed.Depending on your electricity rates, vs natural gas rates, it can be worth it even if you don't have solar.The system also produces water that we run into our gray water system, to water our plants!Had it for over a year, and it works incredibly well, and we highly recommend! They also have a larger 140,000 BTU model if you want even faster heating.works well with our existing Pentair automation system, and was a breeze to install. Don't forget about the water drain, as it can produce quite a bit of water. You can just have it flow out to plants or down a drain.

This heat pump seemed well made and worked as advertised for a little over a week. The controls are cumbersome... having to push and hold buttons to select, lock, and unlock (counterintuitive). Not great at heating, even when it worked; and nowhere near as fast as a gas or electric heater. Then... it threw a code for gas exhaust temperature sensor failure and stopped working altogether. Manual identifies the code with a description, but that is it. Website has NOTHING. I finally received a response from company. They had me troubleshooting potential solutions that did not work. Then, they refused to do anything else! They said their warranty does not cover technicians, nor repair, nor return… despite the unit being installed less than two weeks and owned just over a month. DO NOT BUY... TOO MUCH MONEY WASTED FOR A NOW USELESS HUNK OF METAL. Since install takes longer than return period and company would not honor their warranty, despite it being in operation for only about a week, I had to pay a restocking fee to get rid of it. So, I am out more than a thousand dollars on the unit and another couple thousand for the install (concrete pad, plumbing, and electrical)… and have NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT!STAY AWAY FROM THIS GARBAGE.

No installation problems, app is easy and works great to remotely set temperature and check heating output. Unit heats efficiently and quickly, we have a 15k gallon pool and paired with a solar blanket the unit doesn’t have to run constantly.

Heater has been up and running for 3 months. Easy to install and works great! The WiFi also connected quick and easy. The app makes it simple to set and monitor the temperature. Using this on a 12,000 gallon pool and have had the temps over 100 degrees.

Extremely pleased with the DR-1400HP's capacity to heat my enormous pool. But please be aware this heater has two settings energy efficient and regular. Energy efficient ( two bars) is super quiet and efficient (80% reading) but this setting is not what you want to heat up your pool. You want regular setting ( three bars) quiet and efficient (100% reading). See online instruction manual for how to switch between the two. My unit also came in energy efficient mode and would not heat up sufficiently until I switched to regular setting.Perhaps the company just wants to demonstrate just how unbelievable quiet energy efficient mode is. But I find regular mode is still quieter than my pentair quietest pool pump. In any event the heater adjusts its run speed and energy output to your desired pool temp so it adjusts automatically anyways.The a/c installer I hired to install the product thought the product was extremely well built. It looks great. Super quiet. Heats huge pool to a cozy even temperature. Amazon delivered to my house. Electric bill seems reasonable for how I run it/size of my pool. I would definitely recommend.
