I am for the meantime living in a small cabin where the appliances are all 30-40 years old. My electricity bill is over $400 in the summer with no A/C. I decided to replace the landlord's stove (usage) with a toaster oven (efficient in energy) and this induction cooktop. I cannot yet vouch for a reduction in my bill, but I read for two hours today so as to jump into cooking without ruining any food. I started off with power level 5 as advised, then switched to sear at 320 degrees F. After searing my lamb, I sauteed at a temperature below my oil's smoke level and above the required safety (cooked) temperature of the meat I wanted to cook (so chose 180 degrees F). I bought two Duxtop skillets and used the 8" one (not the 10"). I am including all my numbers and settings as I found reviews with those details were essential to me teaching myself in 2 hours of reading how to cook with this induction cooktop. Everything went perfectly! There was some noise from the fan (a whine) but it wasn't very loud (and I am sensitive to noises) and was it well worth the excellent cooking results. There was much less spatter than I normally have when sauteeing, so I seemed to smell the meat less as it cooked. I relied more on visual cues to assure when it was cooked, consequently. The cooktop itself was much less messy after I finished than that old (very hard-to-clean) stove is. I am very grateful for the neat cleanup. It was much faster to cook my food, it didn't smell up the entire cabin and it was very easy to clean up. Even the skillet, itself, seemed somewhat less dirty than those I used on the old-fashioned (maybe 20% less spatter and the spatter wasn't dark or cooked-on), electric burners.Oh, and I did choose the Duxtop Triclad cookware, so stainless steel sandwiching a layer of aluminum, I believe. Using the correct tools made by the company for this specific cooktop was a great investment. All the meatballs cooked evenly despite the fact that many meatballs were on the outer edge. So, no hotspots and no movement or sliding of my skillet. Thank heavens! This cooktop is definitely more powerful and faster than my landlord's ancient electric oven. Despite its power, I also liked not feeling the heat on my hands, arms and face as I normally do in my small kitchen using the traditional stove. Also, I had no electrical problems (circuit outages, blown fuses) which sometimes happen in this poorly-wired living space. If this appliance lasts (over time) even a year or two, I will definitely not switch back (to non-induction) even after I move to a nicer place with better appliances. I am preparing to buy a Duxtop cooking set now.

I purchased this induction cooktop unit after traveling in Europe and using induction cooking units in rental apartments. Over there they are very commonly used for energy savings and ease of cooking. I have a RV 5th wheel trailer and also wanted to use it when traveling to avoid heating the trailer with the gas cooktop. This unit, the 9100MC, has met all my expectations. I will not go over cooking pots/pans to use, as they are well documented. I do not consider it a deal breaker, but will add that you will hear fan noise when it is working. I consider that this is a small price to pay for the convenience of cooking on it, and since most cooking goes quicker than on traditional stoves, the noise is brief.I have been using it for several months, at home and on the road. It cooks quickly and efficiently and does not heat up my kitchen. I especially like the cooking temperature controls. It is so much easier to bring food, say from a boil down to a simmer, and hold without spilling it out of the pot, when I can go from max temp to 200 and within 30 sec the food is down to the simmer temp. Knowing the burn temp of oils I can easily avoid overheating them. Overall the temperature steps are easy to work with and give a lot of control. The 1800 W max power level is good for how we cook. It will bring a 10 inch pot of water to boil in a couple of minutes for pasta. The unit is light weight, but well made. Its easy to put in back in its box and move it back and forth to our trailer, where it works equally well. We use it at home almost every day. Our kitchen stove stands pretty lonely, unless we need to cook on multiple burners. Even then we will often start things cooking on the induction, then move them to the stove top at some point. Based on my experience I recommend the 9100MC.

While our induction range was busted, out of warranty and too expensive to repair, we took some time to decide what to replace it with and bought two of these individual burner cook tops to get us by in the meantime. We used these for about two months, and during the discernment process, considered using them permanently and buying a counter top oven. But using these convinced us that this is not an option.PROS: Understand that we were already sold on induction before buying them, and will probably never go back to gas or non-induction electric. So we already knew how to cook with stainless steel and we do so with ease. (You have to know to get the pan hot with fat before adding food, for example. If you are a non-stick cookware lover, you will probably hate these, or at least have a learning curve with them.) That understood, these work great. They heat up fast, are easy to use, easy to clean up, and are as efficient as was our GE induction range cook top. (We loved that range and are very sad that it died after less than 4 years of use.) Actually, they may even have heated up quicker than the GE range, and the settings definitely ran hotter than did our range burners. We have since bought a new induction range (an Electrolux), but are glad to have these as a supplement and a backup, and have stored them carefully for that purpose. Also, the price is right for an alternative to a full cook top.CONS: The fans on these things are LOUD. Again, we were used to induction, and so were used to the fans coming on with use of the oven and burners. But these are at least three times louder than were our GE range fans. And they are probably 6 times louder than our Electrolux range fans. It doesn't bother my husband so much, but I have more sensitive hearing. Before I would sit down and eat the meal just prepared on these things, I would turn off every noise making device (range hood fan, TV's, etc.) to give my ears and brain some peace after the loud droning sound, mixed with a light squeal, that was unavoidable while the meal was being cooked. The sound of two of these burners and a range hood fan was over the top. Also, the first time I had to do kitchen cleanup, I decided that using these permanently was not an option. I don't think the oil and "stuff" that spews from the pot or pan is any more with these than on a normal cook top (that would all just depend on the food and temperature), but having to clean grease splatter off the long, thick, hard-to-straighten out, zig-zaggy electric cord, as well as the sides of these, then move them and clean off the surface of whatever you have it sitting on (we had them on our broken range), was simply too big a pain to me. It is no big deal if these are an occasional use thing. It would be like using any counter top appliance--of course you need to clean it all up and the counter and wall around it afterward. But I would not want to have to do this daily. Also, the cord seems unnecessarily long. We used them on quite close to our counter top outlets, so the cord did not hang away from the appliance, but was zig-zagged quite close to the burner. It would have been nicer if we could plug them in down low on the wall behind the counter top. If we had to use them permanently, I would arrange to do that.In summary, these cook food great and are super user friendly. They're a great option as a way to test induction, and to have as a backup, or when cooking a large meal and you need extra burners. But as a permanent solution, in my opinion, they're just too loud. Even for other uses I have though of, like as warming plates on a buffet for a big holiday meals, I wouldn't recommend them, because they are simply too loud. A sound-sensitive guest may turn unexpectedly aggressive if you subject them to that sound throughout dinner. However, I think my husband would use them and think nothing of it. Background droning noises don't usually bother him.

this was a replacement for another induction hob which stopped working after more than 20 years. So this has more feature and better temp control than my old one. It works very well
