I like this unit better than Telrad (which I’ve used for ever) in that it conforms to a finder dove tail female receptacle. It is a bit more stylish than Telrad as well. Highly recommended.

I like the design, the dotted reticle and the brightness control. The adjustments are simple and pretty much take after the Telrad and Rigel Systems Quick Finder sites. The plastic cover tends to be a bit annoying, but not a deal breaker.(The others don’t provide a cover) It’s smaller than the Telrad, but bigger than the Rigel Systems. Another draw back is that the other two can be mounted anywhere on the scope, while the ES, needs a dovetail mount which is usually mounted on an angle. It holds its adjustment very well, and I will be using it on on my Celestron SE and it will be my “go to†finder!

Excellent Produce. Bought this to aim my Explore Scientific 102 Essential Series telescope. It works so well. It took less than 5 minutes to calibrate. Now, I find any messier I want in no time flat. Wish I had never used anything else.

The fact that this has a mini-Vixen shoe as well as a 1/4-inch screw hole makes this work well for a number of possible configurations, which is a big advantage over competing reflex sights and otherwise would warrant a 5-star rating. At the same time, however, such configurations are unlikely result in placement exactly atop a telescope but instead at angles--say, screwed onto a telescope ring or in a mini-Vixen saddle at an angle. This is where the device's irritating design flaw--a cheap plastic sliding cover--poses problems. The fact that it tends to flop into the view if the device is angled relative to the top of the telescope can be fixed using small sticky Velcro circles or cut strips. Virtually any handling of an angled device without Velcro circles or strips holding the cover in the "open position" results in the cover falling off, which invariably happens whenever I forget to use the Velcro circles or steps to hold the cover open. Hence, one has to handle the device nearly all the time with the cover held open by Velcro, which largely defeats the protective purpose of the cover. But without the Velcro solution, invariably one would have the cover fall off in the dark and waste time searching for it or perhaps even losing it. This fact warrants a 1-star rating. Hence, my 3-star rating is an average.

This reflex sight is perfect for what I needed. I like that it has the dovetail that is common for finder scopes, and doesn't require a unique base. Is very quick to adjust and the light dims far enough to not drown out stars. As far as the cover goes, it is very easily removed by angling it, and easily replaced when done. That way it doesn't fall down, covering the sight glass.

I purchased this item for my Celestron Nexstar telescope. It's much bigger and bulkier verses the original star pointer scope. It mounts in the original dove tail rail that is on the scope, which is a plus. The control knob placement on the unit are handy and easy to use. The red reticle in the finder glass is much easier to see verses the original star finder scope. Adjusting the scope is rather simple. The reason I have rated this four stars because there is a design flaw with the adjustable dew shield that slides back and forth. During the alignment 3 star process, if the scope is pointing up more than 30 deg. the dew slides backward, hence covering the optical window that reflects the red reticle in the finder shield. However, that was easy to fix by place small velcro adhesive dots under the door shield and top of the unit. So when the shield is open it will not slide backward covering the reticle viewer window. This could have been prevented by designing another way for the dew shield cover to lock in place while the finder scope is being used.Overall the scope is a great value for the price.
