For DIYers and pros alike, framing walls can be a tedious task, plagued by measuring mishaps and uneven stud spacing. That's where the Pektiftn 3-in-1 On-Center Framing Tool comes in, promising precision and efficiency with its innovative design. Here's a breakdown of my experience with this nifty jig: Precision Built for Perfect Walls: This cast aluminum tool takes the guesswork out of stud placement. Its three sizes – 12", 14", and 16" on-center – cater to standard wall framing configurations. Simply clamp the tool onto the existing stud, and voila! Perfectly spaced marks for the next stud are ready, eliminating the need for repeated measuring and potential errors. This laser-focused accuracy translates to faster framing times and, more importantly, walls that rise straight and true. Built to Last, Built to Work: The Pektiftn tool is crafted from durable cast aluminum, making it sturdy enough to handle even the most demanding projects. Whether you're braving the elements on a construction site or tackling a home renovation, this jig can withstand the wear and tear. Its compact size and lightweight design also make it easy to maneuver and store, a welcome convenience on any job site. Minor Quirks, Major Improvements: While the Pektiftn tool shines in its accuracy and build quality, a couple of minor points merit consideration. The markings on the tool could be deeper for better visibility, especially in low-light conditions. Additionally, a built-in level would be a valuable bonus for ensuring perfect stud alignment. Overall, the Pektiftn 3-in-1 On-Center Framing Tool is a game-changer for anyone who values precision and efficiency in their framing projects. Its sturdy build, innovative design, and time-saving accuracy make it a worthwhile investment for DIYers and professionals alike. With a few minor improvements, this tool has the potential to be an absolute must-have for any framing toolbox.

Do not buy this item. It isn't 16 on center. Framed my whole wall with this and I was 2 inches out by the time I got to the end. I was very disappointed. (Update) they offered a full refund then never gave it to me.

I have built every thing from new houses to sheds using 2X lumber and steel studs with 16" on center wall construction. I normally use a scrape piece of 2" x 4" framing material that I cut to length to get proper spacing. I found this Pektiftn Framing Tools 12" & 16" Framing Spacing Tool and thought that it was a well designed and that it would save me building time (which is also money). The spacing tool is very easy to use and will reduce your build time (especially when you are working alone). The 12" & 16" openings are accurately spaced. It is of a lightweight build due to being made out of aluminum, yet it is very solid. The areas where the top/bottom plate meet the studs are open which allows for the proper nailing/screwing the pieces together. It will hold your studs and top plates at 90 degrees to one another while assembling.I recently used this spacing tool on a bedroom closet remodel project that used 16" on center spacing and had great results. I will be using it in spring of 2024 to build a deck with 12" joist spacing. The only issue will be if you come across lumber that is 1-5/8" thick. This can happen with very wet treated lumber. The openings for the studs & top/bottom plate are 1-9/16" wide. You can still get accurate results when this happens, but you will have to pay attention to the angle of the studs to top/bottom plate while assembling (as the tool will not be able to hold the lumber at 90 degrees). This spacing tool will also work on steel studs & channels. You might have to make up some removable spacers for the stud & channel openings since some steel framing members are narrower than traditional lumber.I highly recommend the Pektiftn Framing Tools 16 & 12 Framing Spacing Tool ... especially if you are working alone most of the time. It will save you time and give you accurate stud spacing results.

I've never before used a framing tool like this, despite being a contractor for most of my life. Now that I'm older and work alone for the most part, it's nice to have a tool like this to hold things in position/alignment while setting screws/nails in place. I actually use a couple of quick clamps to hold this in position on one side, while running to the other side with another one, clamping that side in place as well, then I check and recheck to make sure all is well and lock it all in place with screws. This tool has already become a great accompaniment tool when framing walls but especially when framing decks. The only complaint I have really about this framing tool, is when you're working with a ledger board, which rests (obviously) against your home's exterior sheathing. This pinched/butted edge, prevents the tool from dropping into position in this particular situation, as it has a lip on the long edge of the tool that must drop down over the edge of the wood, to allow for proper use of the tool. This is really not a knock against the tool, as it was not necessarily designed for that specific situation. For the other 90% of the stick-built homes, it works perfectly well. Highly recommended.

Framing a proper wall is easy and difficult at the same time. All you have to do is mark your lines and nail a 2x4 in place. Sounds simple, except, those darn studs tend to move. A drywaller depends on the framer to do a good job. Regardless of your experience, this light weight, all aluminum tool will be your good friend. It is nearly impossible to not have the studs where they belong.I will never again, build a stud wall without this tool. Look out basement, here I come. If you build with 2 inch lumber, get your own. You will love it.
