Yes it cuts into the ground but doesn't look as easy as video. The pole twists around.

This item is POOR quality. The first time I used it, within 10-seconds it already broke. There is a plastic piece in the middle that broken. And even if it didn't break, that plastic piece doesn't hold the top half and bottom half very well. Returning and going to a box store to buy a better quality one. You get what you pay for.
