When I tested out this light timer, I noticed it took 15 seconds after I covered the photosensor to turn on the light. That's pretty common with photos sensor timers . However, when I shined a flashlight on the sensor, it didn't go off after 15 seconds. Previous experience with these type of photos sensors told me there was some kind of delay involved.Turn off I checked the manual and it stated the if timer sees any light, it will wait 15 MINUTES before turning off during AND at the end of "on" interval set on the timer. This is to prevent intermittent lights, such as automobile lights, a neighbors porch light etc,, causing your lights to flash on and off. 15 minutes seems like a long time, but at least it's leaving the light on during that time.Overall, I think this is a great product. I'm sure all the ones that look like it operate the same. You can get multiple plugs or single plugs. It has waterproof and dustproof ratings. It is made out of thick plastic and the dial feels pretty robust. It's really simple to use and I think most people will just use it for the dusk dawn feature and be quite happy with it. . If for some reason it does not hold up, I will revisit my review.

This timer works great! I really like the positive clicks as you move from setting to setting. I wanted to have a Dusk-to-Dawn setup for some outdoor lights and this fit the bill. Comes on at the exact time I’d normally turn on my outdoor lights manually but now I don’t have to think about it! Works exactly as it should. Seems very solid and well built. Hopefully it will give me years of service. Thanks!

Timer works great. Timer was set for 4 hours to go on at night and does just that. Lights up my shrubs at night with the white lights I wrapped around my trees. Real nice effect from the front of the house.

I purchased this timer for my Christmas lights and since I didn’t have much luck with any other ones that I had purchased, we purchased this one and I’m telling you it’s so user friendly. You could set it from dusk to Dawn or dusk for 4,6,8 hours and it does all the work. I highly recommend!!!

I ordered two of these HBN photocell activated switches to set up indoor security lighting for a vacation absence. One of them functioned flawlessly right off the bat, the other not at all. When the circuit is activated, whether by photocell or on manual override, a bright red indicator lights up. On the defective one that indicator never turned on, even on the "ON" setting. Because I knew the return process would ask, I checked to make sure the equipment that was not powered by the switch worked fine when plugged directly to the same outlet. These switches are designed by Intertek in the US and manufactured in China. They are built to take punishment, the stout cord looks strong enough to lift an engine block. But whoever has responsibility for quality assurance needs to pull the alarm and make some changes, because my defective switch failed the most basic test: it did not transmit current from one end to the other, never mind photocell or timer function. On the positive side, these are labeled for outdoor use but they work just as well inside. The photocell activates at the right time of dusk, not too soon (before sunset), not too late (after full darkness). I noticed this because an older generation timer I have turns on too soon, even with the photocell dialed to the darkest setting. And once activated, these switches deactivate the photocell until the cycle that was initiated has completed, no matter how many other lights you turn on.After I received the replacement switch I ran a one-week live test of my security circuits (one turns on a lamp, the other a TV in a different room, at staggered times) and both passed. I have been around the track enough times to have a close acquaintance with Murphy's Law, so I allowed enough time for all this before I left for the airport. So my advice is, these are good switches when they are working. If you are willing to risk getting a dud, and to wait for a replacement to arrive, go for it. My guess is, if it is working, it will keep working. Just remember ol' Murphy and allow yourself extra time. I dinged them a star for not finding the most basic defect there is before they cleared it for delivery to market!

Sold as new but dirty and covered in scratches. Perhaps it was refurbished. It works great otherwise and is used to switch my landscape lights on and off with dusk-dawn timer. It’s replacing a decades-old light timer with a bad photocell sensor. The unit works great so far (it's deep under an awning, so waterproofing is less important for my uses) and has the right amount of sensitivity.I just wish it didn’t already look ten years old… it’s more beat-up than the 20-year timer it’s replacing! My advice to seller is to sell it via Amazon Warehouse/Resellers for a few dollars off. Passing this off as new, even though it’s a $10 timer is unconscionable to me.

Works very well and is very sensitive to the outdoor sunset. We bought the three plug one as it was cheaper than the one with two plugs!
