This heated snow melting mat works fine but I really envisioned using it on the entry concrete slab of my home which dwarfs the size of the mat; that’s my fault. I like the “diamond cut†shape on the mat which should provide a bit more grip. The operation is very simple; on or off. The plug and switch are in a largish housing that’s about 3 ½†L x 1 ⅞ W x 2†D and the directions indicate the plug should be kept dry. So, even if the mat was a size that worked for me, I cannot plug the housing in to the AC outlets; this matters to me because it would easily keep the housing dry.It warmed up quickly enough and is about hot enough to keep snow at bay. The listing indicates it is 90 watts from an energy use standpoint. This 10†x 30†mat is more suited for steps and the mats can be linked to use together but it was unclear to me how many can be linked. I don’t have a series of steps to use these mats on (hopefully I will find a good use) but for those with that situation at home and for more commercial needs the mats could be a real plus. These mats roll up for storage, the electrical cord connections lock in place, and the cord has a red on light. Each mat is not inexpensive but they can be a real plus regarding safety and extra “insurance†as a slip and fall deterrent. [3.5 stars]

Product melts snow & ice, but “ non skid†surface ineffective when mat gets wet. It becomes quite slippery even wearing boots with good traction, when mat gets wet….which of course it does! Dangerous actually. Returning one I purchased for that reason.

This plug in ice melt strip is great. I have a different one and this one beats it hands down. It heats fast. It is UL listed, and it has a test / reset breaker at the plug. Safety first, after all isn’t that why you buy this type of item? It also grips a stair quite well, no sliding around. On top of that it is packed very well for shipping, and it doesn’t smell like anything bad when being used. This is the stair ice melter that you want.
