Like others have reported, I received a 3/8" bit fly cutter, despite that the description (still) says it is for 5/16" bits. That wasn't a problem for me - in fact, I was kinda hoping I'd receive the 3/8" size - but I docked a point for the misleading description, anyway. Functionally, this fly cutter is very well balanced and produced just barely perceptible vibration at 600 RPM, and a lot less clatter when actually cutting than a much smaller fly cutter with a straight 1/2" shank. Also, there was no difference in bit height above the fixed jaw of my vise when rotated 180 degrees, which means no wobble. Shown is a test cut in 6061 aluminum plate at 0.1mm depth of cut, 600 RPM and hand-cranking the travel at a reasonable speed on my PM-727M mill - very pleased with that result, and I suspect that a HSS tool bit will give even better results, especially in aluminum (I just need to grind one - all I had on hand was a 5/16" bit for the aforementioned smaller fly cutter).

Exactly what I needed. Solid, with four grub screws, and the taper fits tight even before threading in the draw bar. If you need a fly cutter, and don't have the infinite patience to machine your own (I'm looking at you, This Old Tony), grab this one and some high speed steel stock and get cutting.

The first one I received wasn't usable. It was so poorly machined. The tool holder slot crooked with a tilt.😱The second one was fine. The same poor finish but at least the tool holder section was straight. Knocked a few bits off it and was able to fit a indexable lathe cutter.Got some pretty good finishes out of it🙂

I was going to deduct a star or two because of the threads in the arbor. They were started on an angle and my draw bar would not start without trying to cross thread. I was ready to return it but decided to try a repair. Luckily I got the threads started straight after chamfering the end and got a good inch of threads in it, so all is well. The cutter its self is very nice and will hold a 3/8 left hand cutting tool very nicely. It runs true and makes a very smooth cut. The balance is very good at 900 RPM in my Grizzly G0705 mill. I'm quite happy.

The flycutter is decently built for a cheap tool, edges are not chamfered, but otherwise it is totally fine at this price point. That said, the description in the listing on Amazon is WRONG. The flycutter is machined to use 3/8 cutters. A 5/16 cutter as listed in tge description will not work. See the photo for proof.4 star rating for the tool. 0 stars for the incorrect listing info.

mine worked great fit and finish was fine i see no reason to spend allot of money on a fly cutter as long as it holds the cutter and fits into the taper of the mill. this one did all of that very happy with this purchase.

The finish on this fly cutter arbor is much better than I thought it would be. Can fit 3/8" left hand lathe bits as well.
