Only had to use this one time so far and it worked as advertised. We have rat snakes that sometimes try to get into the house. I caught one trying to get in and slid the gripping part under it, pulled the handle and I had his/her. It is sturdy which adds to the weight and when you put a 5 foot snake on the end of it it makes for a real test in terms of handling.

So these aren't the best tool to use to grab a snake but they're better than using your hands if you need to remove snake and don't have another option to move and keep it alive. I won't use these for harmless snakes I can identify but for ones in places I can't reach I make the expectation for. I will use for venomous snakes to get them in a bucket or case to relocate away from a populated area and put more into the country side close by. When using watch the pressure you're using as they can cause the snake some issues if you clamp it too hard so I really won't use these more than grabbing a snake I can't reach with my hands and for very short distances like from the ground into the bucket or relocation item.

Living near a natural area, I sometimes get snakes in my yard. Not always a bad thing, unless it's a poisonous one. These snake tongs will help in capturing these slithering snakes and removing them. Because the length is about 4ft, it's much safer than trying to handle them with any other "tool". I really like the secure locking mechanism, as it makes it easier, especially if I were to accidently drop the tongs while handling a captured snake.I appreciate that the snake tongs can be folded for storage, too.***The only negative that I can remark on is that the snake tongs appear to be used... really used. Hence the lower rating.***I would suggest that, if you're new to using snake tongs, that you practice with a small twig or similar to ensure you're aware of proper usage prior to coming face to face with a snake.
