At first I thought my unit was faulty because it would click but wouldn't weld. Not even on the highest setting. I got even more frustrated when it would trip my portable 12v power packs. I discovered that it needs a very high amp input and thick connectors. Once I hooked it up to a car battery as recommended, it worked like a charm. I'm actually very impressed that it was welding .03 nickle on just the 15 setting.

You will need to follow the link in the manual to request access to a google drive folder that includes some very helpful videos and the full manual PDF. There's a single button-knob and 3-digit display used to configure quite a few different settings. This does require a high-amperage power source, like a lead-acid car battery. The manual suggests a manual trigger mode such as foot pedal, however I do not see any instructions or obvious way to use a manual trigger... I plan on using the auto-triggering anyway, though. For the price, this is a nice little welder - just make sure you're comfortable with the minimalism.

As the photos show, this is a very minimalist spot welder. The power input states 9-12v, I got best results at~13ish off a golf cart battery that's fully charged. Use a battery for power supply rather than a 12v charger, I couldn't get that to work, likely due to the low amps it supplied. The spot welds with the sample metal held decently to a LiIon battery, took a few tries to get the right power so be ready to spend some time getting the feel for it. My first 10 welds were really bad and was a little frustrating until I got the feel for it.Overall, super small, portable, light and minimalist. Once you get the feel for it, it works well, and for the price and simplicity it's really a good deal.

I used to solder a glob of solder onto the tops of 18650's to make a button top, but that's not very safe. This spot welder does the job safely, and effectively. This is the right way to do it. It works very well for a safe effective weld on the cell.
