I bought this mainly because it was inexpensive but also because it has a detachable sensor-so I put the main unit a foot high and put the sensor at the bottom(the sensor has about a 2 foot long wire to attach it to the main unit). I'm afraid that other water detectors that don't have detachable sensors may get flooded with water (you have to put these units at the bottom where water will touch them) and the electronics may short out and fail - I consider this an essential feature, so I would not buy or recommend ones without a detachable sensor. Also the alarm volume was loud enough to hear thru a sink cabinet but not too loud as to be annoying. Can't vouch for battery life yet(but I expect it to last at least 1 year on a 9v battery). Don't know if this has a low battery warning, a different brand that I tried emits a short beep every few minutes when the battery is getting low. Some other brands were also much larger (but felt mostly empty), I like this small size.Overall I would recommend this.

A simple and inexpensive device that belongs in every house! Using these could save you a TON of money and possible exposure to ruined wall board and carpets, black mold, wood rot and other unpleasantness related to a flooded house. I've been in the same house for good number of years and I've suffered through a number of minor floods inside due to toilets that didn't shut off, sinks that somebody left unattended and they over flowed. Dish washer shutoff valves that didn't. Laundry machines that over flowed, etc, etc. So I bought a pack of ten of these and installed one under every sink, washing machine, dish washer, food disposal and toilet in the house. Hopefully the next time one leaks these will alert me before everything floods and I end up with a major cleanup job. I tested all ten before installing and all worked. You just install the battery, turn on the switch and place them where the sensor will be on the floor and under the places most likely to leak. When the sensor get wet, the unit will make a load, piercing, squeal that can not be ignored! To reset them, turn it off, clean up the water, and dry off the sensor. Then place it where you want it and turn the unit back on, and it's ready to go again. But since these are out of sight and out of mind, I DO recommend spending the money for a good brand of the long life lithium batteries and using them in the detectors.

I like that these are very easy to install. They are extremely loud though. I made a mistake to test my 1st one inside the house, all of my cats scattered and didn't act normal for a while. I ended up testing all of them in the garage. Even then, I still had to cover up the speaker. All of them tested at working condition. i am also using some masking tape to cover the speakers before I installed them. I also made sure that all of them are touch the floor.

I put these sensors on all locations that could have potential water leaks. I feel much better and less worried to have water damage to my house.I love the simple installations. And all of them worked upon testing them before installation.I like the loudness and will have confidence that I will hear it when it detects water.One down side is that It does not include batteries. But it is to be expected for the price you pay. And they are good value for sure.

Fourth time I ordered these. The first two orders were fine. The third one 1 out of 10 did not work. This time I tesed 6 which didn't work and gave up. Sent them back. It's a shame they do or did work.

The sensing end is just held by the tiny soldered wires. If you place it and don't move it, they work and are inexpensive. They won't handle much abuse.
