I didn't really know what expect when I bought this, it looks like an easy solution to finding more space inside a case. It will certainly accomplish that, and if I have or decide to leave it visible, it certainly won't look bad for it. Until this rebuild is finished and I can run everything through its paces I won't know much as to performance, but that's more on other aspects than a remote card. For 11 bucks, that's a pretty affordable solution, for sure. It is still just a 1x slot even if it'll hold a 4x card, this doesn't 'increase' anything beyond space and mobility of parts/cards inside - or outside - of a case. I'm probably going to see more use for this as a component of my open-air chassis/build rack, it won't be going into any units that will be leaving - sold, traded or gifted.

+ Device is nice and compact - good for relocating smaller PCIe devices.+ Power is available - but keep it low (e.g. no high power devices like GPUs).* Caution: Even with the external power still keep it low - SATA power connectors are limited in their power capacity (12v 4.5A via 3x 12v pins at 1.5A each for 54W via 12v) and a PCIe 4x device is allowed up pull up to 25W according to the spec. This is why some GPUs despite using only 4x PCIe lanes for data use a full 16x slot - it allows them to pull the full 75W from the PCIe slow. So watch what you connect and be aware of it's power draw.- Biggest complaint is the location of the USB connector on the 4x riser side. Due to the height limitations this adapter cannot use any PCIe devices with 8x or 16x physical connectors - including common m.2 adapters that accommodate PCIE 1x, 4x, 8x, and 16x (e.g. notched devices with a 16x physical design).Bottom line - this works for moving a PCIe 1x or 4x device to a new location with 1x electrical connection. Connecting an 8x or 16x physical device (either with a notched connector or via modifying the 4x slot to be open-ended) will not work. An additional riser would be needed in this case, partially defeating the purpose. This is a bit unfortunate for my use case as I had planned on connecting extra NVMe devices via adapters to this riser but the common PCIe to m.2 adapters come in 16x physical with notches for smaller lane sizes. Other adapters with only a 4x physical connector tend to be full PCIe card sizes which negates the compact design featured here (my goal was to create the smallest possible riser for m.2 drives using common PCIe risers).
