Ok sooooo this is not your expensive Black Forest cuckoo clock, but it is an inexpensive alternative. The front, back and sides are made of wood (almost like balsa wood) but wood none the less. The hands, bird, doors for the bird and dial face are made of plastic, but still well done and fit in overall with the clock. Out the box I was able to get this going with no issues. It seems to keep pretty good time, actually. As far as other complaints about the ‘cuckoo’ not being correct with the hour, I haven’t had that issue. I set the time with the dials as directed in the enclosed manual and the birds has chimed with the correct hour. Maybe I was just lucky. Just understand, this is a cheap clock. The weights and chains are just for show and the clock is battery powered. But it’s still rather impressive for the price. Others have complained about the actual sound of the ‘cuckoo’ and I can agree to a point - there are other reviews that have posted the sound of the clock so you will know what to expect if you buy one. So who is this for? If you’re a ‘set it and forget’ sort of person, then this is for you. Really looks great mounted on the wall, and with the choice of ‘hi’, ‘low’ or ‘off’ for the cuckoo, how can you go wrong? It has a light sensor that is supposed to keep the bird at bay when it’s dark, and I’ll see how that feature works and will adjust my review accordingly if need be. For now I’m actually pleased with my purchase and if you just want a nice cuckoo clock that won’t break the bank, works and looks good on the wall, then I would recommend that you consider this clock.Edit: so I did a little online research and apparently all quartz driven cuckoo clocks have the same ‘cuckoo’ sound, even the German ones from the Black Forest. If you want the classic ‘cuckoo’ sound then you must get a mechanical clock. This thing keeps time as well as any quartz driven clock I’ve ever owned so buy it and enjoy.Edit 2: after almost four years of continuous use, the only thing I’ve done is change the batteries every year. It keeps perfect time (it chimes right on the hour according to my smart phone) and the light sensor works perfectly for night use and if I get tired of hearing the chime during the day I just switch it to ‘off’. If it were to fall off the wall and crash to the floor or if it just stopped working I would immediately buy another one. It’s been that spot on reliable.

The thing I like best is that the little bird is wooden. So many of them are plastic. It's a nice a nice nice size. Husband and I both happy with it.

So I thought this is just a toy quality Cuckoo Clock made out of cheap plastic.I was wrong. I was surprised how good the overall quality of this Cuckoo clock was.I feel comfortable giving a 4-start rating for this product. I would feel hesitant to give a 5-star rating on this product because I don't really have any baseline for this type of product. It just seems to work great and it keeps the time better than some of my older laptops after more than one month of operation.

Almost 20 years ago, I bought a Kendal cuckoo clock at a Big Lots store. The clock and pendulum are still going strong, but a few months ago the cuckoo stopped working. Can't tell you how much I have missed that sound!I found this one on Amazon. It is smaller than what I still have, but I prefer the lighter wood color and it fits the space in my kitchen better. The cuckoo sound has improved too. It begins now with chirping, then going into the cuckoos.I love these clocks! Think about it: almost 20 years (which included a cross-country move) and my first Kendall cuckoo clock is still going and providing great time. When the cuckoo on it went out, I did not even consider getting another brand! I will say that I knocked off a star for craftsmanship because the cuckoo door is slightly crooked, however I chose to keep the clock anyway. The off-kilter door give it a little funk!Most of all, I LOVE hearing the clock cuckoo-ing each and every hour. I had sure missed that sound!

This is a lovely, little, simple cuckoo clock, that cuckoos every hour (or not, at the flick of a switch, or when it's dark). The cuckoo flaps its wings once per cuckoo, then listens for the echo from the Black Forest (sounds like TWO cuckoos per hour). This is NOT an expensive "made in the Black Forest" authentic German clock. It's a great value for the price. It's hanging in my dining room, my family loves it.

No estoy conforme con el producto, me explico:1. El color de la madera se ve de baja calidad, no es un elemento bonito de exihibir en la sala del apartamento.2. El cucu, las puertas del cucu, las manecillas y el redondel de los números y los números son plástico, no madera, además en vivo y directo no combina el dorado con el café de la madera.3. La pintura verde y roja están bien aplicadas, pero los tonos son feos.4. Los niños son de porcelana en color pastel y no combinan con el color de la madera y el plástico.Compré el reloj porque me parecÃa bien en las fotos, pero mirandolo en vivo, es un producto que deberÃa tener mejor estética y espero que el fabricante lo tome como un aporte constructivo para mejorarlo, estoy en duda si regresarlo, no lo he probado aun para verlo en funcionamiento.

Really attractive clock. I had a cool coo clock years ago that operated with the weights and eventually died, I think from so many moves, humidity changes (military family). Anyway this hourly "coo coo" is nice, obviously battery generated, but grandkids live it. Added benefits of turning off coo coo and night time silence.

This Product had a very reasonable price and it arrived on time.It was easy to assemble. Follow the instructions carefully and handle the clock gently.It works fine for past 2 years and son and family friends love the clock. A beautiful and we'll crafted clock. The cuckoo's song is pleasing to the ear, and it does go quiet at night. The only challenge is setting the cuckoo's song to the time of the clock. Not terribly hard, just takes time and patience. That is the only reason it got 4 and not 5 stars.
