The installation went pretty smoothly. The instructions were clear and I was able to thread the wire cable through the holes with a slow and steady hand so that it didn't get frayed. I tried lining up the cable through the post as straight as possible (rather than at an angle as in the instructions) as I figured it would pull more smoothly in a straight line. Everything was installed nicely and then I tried to reset the combination. I set my new combination and closed the box and tried to scramble it...and the numbers wouldn't turn. I read in other reviews that the fix was to loosen the screws in the box. So I loosened up all 4 screws connecting the lock to the post but it didn't work. I even tried loosening them to the point where the lock was wobbling on the post but still no go. So I tightened the screws back up again and was about to call customer service when I had an idea that maybe the excess thin cable was hitting one of the screws when the box was closed. The instructions said to loop the cable around the screw post and tuck it under itself between the posts. So I just decided to tug on the cable to make the loop smaller so that the excess cable was all mostly in the center of the box. I closed the box, and it worked! All 4 combination codes could easily be turned! So maybe if you're having trouble and already tried loosening the 4 screws and nothing is working, try just moving the excess cable away from anywhere it may contact the screws (or maybe even cut off the excess cable). I am so happy I don't have to make a trip through the house and around the backyard just to open the gate anymore. I also have a tall door so it took a little effort to reach over to access the original latch but with this Yardlock I was able to install the latch lower so opening the gate is so easy now.

There is nothing else like this on the market. Perhaps that affords them the ability to charge a premium. I think $50-60 would be appropriate for the extra large version. And for this price, the screws are cheap. Abandon them and use some real exterior screws with a non-phillips screw head.Last criticism: The dial, even on the larger model, is simply too small and the ability to read the numbers is not easy. There is no contrast between the numbers and the dial.But... it works well and solved my problem for an in-swinging gate door that is not used very often but offered an entry into my yard. Overall, I am happy but could be happier. Wait, that's like life...

I purchased the Yardlock XLS in January and a few months later had a warranty issue that I was not going to bother about but the wife suggested reaching out to Yardlock. I'm glad I did as Don (the president of Yardlock) sent me the new unit which fixed the problem. I was impressed that he not only took care of the situation himself, but that he added his card in the replacement shipment to call or email if I had any other issues.I am very happy with the purchase of the Yardlock XLS Lock and Latch System and it has held up beautifully for almost a year now. It is used daily and there are no further issues that I have had. I would definitely recommend this product. The installation may be a little tricky for a beginner DIYer, as the angle of the hole through the fencepost is critical for trouble free use and the spring loaded latch portion with the four screw holes in it may need to be squeezed a little before installing the screws so that the moving latch itself doesn't waver from side to side too much. I noticed that originally when it was installed that the latch would be a little too floppy which caused it not to latch easily. I removed it, squeezed the latch some, re-drilled two of the holes on one side of the post a little closer inward that aligned with the newly squeezed latch, and reinstalled the wood screws. It now opens and closes flawlessly!Great product and some of my neighbors are also getting this for their gates as well!

I was suspicious that this wouldn't work; but it does!. Let me begin with why we need it. We live in the mountains, at the end of a street, where people part to go hiking, walk their dogs, and go four wheeling. I felt I needed to lock the gate. This was easy to install, it's durable, and it locks the gate. Easy to unlock (provided you have the combo). Make sure you only share the combo with people you trust!

It’s been 2 weeks since installing and the Yardlock is doing its job.We set the combination first. Then drilled an extra piece of wood on my gate so the latch would be flush. My husband did the rest but he was able to follow the in box instructions. It works as advertised! My 11 year old daughter and 75 year old parents are able to figure it out. My parents complain a bit that the dial numbers are still too small even though I got the XL.This will help secure our yard from random delivery driver entries (happens too often). We live in a rainy climate and water still gets into the combination dial section. Hopefully it doesn’t rust out.

Seemed liked the perfect solution for my rear gate…memory lever and lock barrel faulty and would not click into position.

Been looking for a keyless solution to getting in our garden gate for ages. This is genius and yet simple! We absolutely love it - have taken the gate key off every keyring and given our family the code so they can come straight in.Easy to fit, easy to use.

I purchased the first version of this gate lock about 5 years ago and it finally broke (the metal cable rusted out and cover for the combination lock broke). This newer version, I notice some improvements. There is no longer a need for the spring (the latch mechanism is smoother and it does not ship with a spring) and the combination lock cover is metal and it slides up and down (major improvement over the plastic cover from the previous version). The screws are also thicker (which makes the lock feel more securely mounted). Installation is simple and can be done well within an hour. Just follow the instructions. One strange fact, the gate lock originates in Canada (literally about a 40 minutes drive from where I live), yet when I ordered the gate lock it was shipped from Yardlock USA. And the price is still cheaper (including exchange rate) through this route than sourcing the lock in Canada.*** update November 26, 2020 ***The lock is still going strong. Gone 2 summers and 1 winter, and continues to perform well. I sprayed some dry lubricant on the lock mechanism and the edges of the door (covers the combination) after the first summer. Be sure its dry lubricant (anything else will just attract dirt).
