The Kidde PI2010 Battery-Operated Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm combines photoelectric and ionization sensing technologies into one unit to offer broad detection against smoldering and flaming fires. Experts recommend that for optimal protection you have both types of sensing technology in your home. This smoke alarm's trademarked Hush feature allows you to silence nuisance alarms, while an indicator LED and test feature let you easily confirm that the alarm is working. The Kidde PI2010 Smoke Alarm: Employs both photoelectric and ionization sensors. Features a hush button to silence the alarm for non-emergency situations like a smoky dinner. Compact design blends in seamlessly with your home decor. Wire-in smoke alarm with 9V battery backup. With two different sensors, you'll get warnings sooner no matter the kind of fire. View larger. Be assured of your home's safety with the PI2010 smoke alarm. View larger. Dual-Sensor Technology for Improved Safety Experts divide home fires into two groups: flaming and smoldering. Flaming fires result from flammable liquids and cooking accidents, while smoldering fires most often occur when smoking materials, such as cigarettes, are left unattended. Ionization smoke sensors may detect smaller, less visible fire particles, like those produced by flaming fires, sooner than photoelectric sensors. However, photoelectric sensors are may detect larger, more visible fire particles, such as those produced by smoldering fires, sooner than ionization sensors. Each must pass identical performance standards to obtain third-party approval and meet Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 217, the independent standard to which alarms are listed. Because you don't know what type of fire you will have in your home, experts recommend installing both types of technology for optimal protection. Experts Recommend Protection from Both Types of Fires Virtually every recognized fire authority recommends the installation of both ionization and photoelectric alarms in order to maximize protection from either flaming or smoldering fires. Kidde offers photoelectric smoke alarms, ionization smoke alarms, and dual sensor alarms, which combine both technologies in one unit. Regardless of the technology, the most important thing is to ensure that you have working smoke alarms on every floor of your home, inside each bedroom and outside sleeping areas. Studies show placing alarms in both bedrooms and hallways could increase a family's escape time by up to 15 minutes. Fire Authorities recommending both smoke alarm technologies: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Consumer Reports National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) Underwriters Laboratory (UL) Trademarked Hush Feature for Convenience By pressing the Hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners. This feature desensitizes the alarm for approximately seven minutes. During this time, the alarm chirps every 30 to 40 seconds. If the smoke is too dense, the Hush feature is overridden and the alarm still sounds, and the alarm automatically resets at the end of the seven minutes. This convenient safety measure eliminates the temptation to remove the alarm's battery, which creates an unsafe situation. Wire-in Smoke Alarm with Reliable 9-Volt Battery Backup, Indicator LED, and Test Feature Because a smoke alarm only helps protect you if it's working, this unit features a red LED that flashes every 30 to 40 seconds to indicate that it is operating correctly. For additional peace of mind, the alarm contains a test/reset button that enables you to periodically test its circuitry and horn. The PI2010 is a wire-in smoke alarm with 9V battery backup, which provides continuous protection against smoke and fire hazards even during power outages. The unit offers a low battery warning that issues a brief chirp every 30 to 40 seconds for at least seven days before losing power, letting you know it's time to change the battery. The unit measures just 5.75 inches in diameter and 1.8 inches deep, and it features a neutral, white finish. It features tamper resist features to deter vandalism or theft. This dual-sensor smoke alarm is UL listed, so you can be confident of its quality, and it is backed by a 10-year limited warranty. We had installed the same model 13 years ago and so it was time to replace our 6 Kidde PI2010 smoke alarms. Since I did not have to install the wiring harness, the installation took less than one hour. We never had false alarms with this model. Also, it has two types of detectors as recommended by fire experts: Dual Photoelectric and Ionization. The manufacturing date for the new smoke alarms was very recent April 2024. I could not find this model in the local stores, so I had to buy on Amazon.Very happy with the purchase.

Bought these at an inflated price because there's very few dual-sensor (ionization and photoelectric) on the market, fewer still with replaceable batteries. And these were at the top of the Consumer Reports ratings. You generally can't intermix brands on the same hardwired system and expect them to all work together and we wanted 2 smoke/CO detectors with voice, so we wanted the non-CO detectors to be Kidde too.The big downfall to these models is that the battery door is on the back and you need to disconnect the quick-connect power connector to open the door and replace the battery. For most the detectors, that won't be a problem for me, but I wish I would have thought of that before putting up the one at a high peak where I can barely reach it. As I was plugging it in I realized that that was going to be a problem sometime in the future and made me wish I had bought a 10-year battery included model for that location, even if it wasn't dual-sensor. Oh well. I didn't deduct a star for this design issue because for most of the detector locations I don't consider this to be a significant problem. And I should have thought about it for the one location where it is.

These are very good detector and have battery (9V) and 120 VAC power input. After the round detector base-plate installation, and connecting wires, it is fairly difficult to twist and lock-in the detector onto the base. I wish Kiddie would have a specific start and 'lock' positions marked on the base and detector to make the installation, and annual battery replacement easier for the residential owners!!!

They are junk! Go off randomly even with new batteries. Manufacturer date is 4-24This is number 3 and about 4 times a day they'll go off for about 30 seconds.

Replaced an old Kidde FireEx alarm.Installed base over rectangular wiring box with no problems. Our alarms are not interconnected and wiring was straightforward using just the white and black wires. The red wire has a slim rubber cap to prevent unintended contacts; nice touch ... no need to tape it. (Could not use the older model's base or wire adapter/plug.)The manufacturing seems to be decent quality. For comparison, the previous alarm (that we replaced) felt less sturdy than this one. Cost is reasonable, so value is pretty good.My biggest concern in selecting any unit for replacement was false alarms ... after 10 days, we've had none. Oh, and recent snow storms gave us a couple of power flops. This would have been a good time for any circuits to error. But no alarms, beeps, or chirps at all. The battery may have contributed to that stability; it certainly contributed to our peace of mind: the alarm continued to work despite losing power. So far, so good.

Glad to see Amazon has these in stock again. They were out of stock for awhile. The dual smokes easily interconnect with other Kidde / FireX devices.

I bought a set of these in July 2023 to replace a set that was at end-of-life, probably 10 or 11 years old. Prior units were reliable over their lifespan. The warranty period per the manufacturer is 10 years. The new units, however, have had real issues with “false” alarms (mostly in the middle of the night!). Kidde, thru there customer support line, for me, has been very responsive in sending replacement units and with no questions asked, I surmise they know they have a manufacturing problem. So, if you have already made the investment in these, utilize customer service rather than tossing hundreds of dollars. OTOH, if you are starting from scratch, look elsewhere.

Purchased two PI2010 to replaced old smoke alarms. Wanted dual sensor unit as they are suppose to detect more fire and smoke. Delivery was accurate and prompt. Price was the best that I could find and the battery is included. Mounting was easy, but be advised the unit is larger in diameter than single sensor units so check your mounting location to ensure there is sufficient room. Being 120V and linked to the second unit it had to be connected to the three existing wires but the instructions were good and the wires are color coded. Units have been installed over a month now and seem to be working with no false alarms.
