The TianYueFly Kite Reel is a solid piece of machinery. I have never handled such a high-tech kite reel. The main reel spins on roller bearings that are silky smooth. The string feeds out through an eyelet that is exactly the same as you see on a fishing rod. The plastic parts are all very thick and held together with metal nuts and bolts. The reel with the string feels heavier than you might expect, reaffirming its solid build. The included string is light and very strong. The bright yellow of the string makes it easy to see. The kite end of the string is terminated with fishing tackle barrel swivel and safety snap to attach the kite. The swivel keeps the string from getting twisted. The safety snap makes it easy to attach and disconnect the kite without having to tie or untie a knot. It comes with a handy red fabric tote sack for storage or transport. Something to be aware of is that this is designed for a right-handed person to grasp in their left hand and crank with their right. If you grasp it with your right hand, the take-up eyelet faces your body instead of facing the sky. The other niggle I have is that the reel lock is a little red knob that you must turn. It is a small diameter, which is difficult grasp. The knurling is a bit smooth, which makes it slippery. The locking tooth engages a pocket under the main reel knob, but that reel knob is then in the way of a clear grasp of the locking knob. It would be better if it was some kind of rocker push button and there were more locking pockets around the circumference of the reel. However, this is a small issue. If the string "jumps" the reel on the crank side, it is self-correcting and you simply lose one turn of string, but it catches on the spool on the very next turn. However, if the string jumps the reel on the side that has the bracket that holds the eyelet, you must use you hand to catch the string, sometimes unwrap it from the bracket, and feed it back onto the reel. This is not something that should happen often, but something I noted. The reel is actually a pleasure to use. I really do like this real and am very glad I got. The build quality makes it worth the price and it's a good design. Once you get used to the controls, all the adjustments feel automatic and you don't even think about it. The reel makes it easy to focus on flying your kite and I think that is really the point.

Sad to say I haven't had a chance to use this with any kites (or in my case, big balloons!) yet. But I did test it running it out all around the house and back in and it has a nice feel. Well — until it gets tangled. Basically this thing is a joy to reel in and out, but a total pain if the string manages to loop around the reel the wrong way. (I'm sure there's a trick to it but every time I try to unloop the knot it makes I just add another… 😞) Or if it gets twisted, which this line seems to have a tendency to do!I found the little holes in the side of the reel to be handy for tucking the loose length of string through once it's wound back up, since there's only one location where it will latch. And yes the line is tied off decently AROUND the spool once you get to the end 😅I wish they gave a bit more detail about the string it's wound with — it seemed rather nice (before I spend a day untangling it 🥲) but not knowing the test strength rating and such makes me a tad hesistant to attach anything TOO valuable at the end of all 1200 feet! (I was able to snap it with ~30lb of pulling but it wasn't a particularly methodical test.)

Although this has a plastic housing it actually rides on 6 ball bearings mounted with nuts & bolts. It took about 6 minutes winding fast to reel in the whole 1200ft- a task that would have been practically impossible with an end-over-end winder, not to mention much safer.I also have a 1000ft winder of similar design and at first I was concerned that this 1200ft model was lighter weight be 10s of grams, but I discovered that the actual kite string is finer in this model (see photo) which explains who they appear to have the same amount of string. Seems to be plenty strong with a 1.5m delta kite in 25MPH gusts. There is a locking knob, and I suggest you always lock it before handing the kite off to a kid under 10 years old. If you release the winder it can go so fast as to not be controlable without sacrificing your fingers.Regardless of the winder its always important to be careful not to grab the kite string while flying, and especially so for this extra fine string, it can cut you if it's running while you grab it. All the more reason to avoid end-over-end winders. Once you try this type you'll never go back.

Bought this for the kite we fly at the beach! Reels easily but the string can get caught sometimes! Takes some practice but ultimately a good reel!

I think this is a pretty nice kite reel. This is a larger size than my other reels and it's a better fit for my hand. The white finger grip area is still a bit smaller than I'd like but it's more comfortable for me to use than my smaller sized reels. Both the reel itself and the handle operate smoothly. The handle is smooth and a nice size, and the reel lock works well. It comes spooled with some heavy looking braided line and a quick connect swivel so it's basically ready to attach to your kite right out of the package. Our family has a lot of kites and we fly them often, this kite reel makes our experience much more enjoyable. I think it's a fair value and I'm happy to have it.

The line in this reel is terrific. Its thick and doesnt fray and has some lubricity to it due to the weave and material they use. You get a ton of line so the reel itself is kind of large but its not annoyingly heavy at all i was hoping the reel had a tension mechanism like a fishing reel however it does not and instead has a little plastic latch that bumps into a plastic part of the spinning portion of the reel. I love the colors and it reels very fast and smooth so it does its job and makes kite flying 1000 times easier and fun. The plastic is thick and it feels very durable for its outdoor use. Great design. Love it!!
