As of January 2023, the answer to "Is it metal?" is "yes, partly -- just like the original was". The handle is some kind of metal, chrome plated. The trip bar is plastic. The rotating bushing is either Delrin (some kind of Acetal) plastic or maybe nylon. I believe this is the same as the original, except that it is overall lighter: 87 grams vs. 96 grams for the original. (Thinner metal?) But the very same part# purchased 2 years ago had a chromed *plastic* handle, not metal. Yikes! But that's how Kohler's "chrome" version could be $8 vs. non-chrome finishes which were all $46. All were gen-u-ine Kohler parts, but they really cheaped out with that plastic handle. (Yes, you *can* feel it, both in the way the handle "flips" over with the weight against your hand, and the "cool" temperature drop when touching it.) So now they have --somehow -- kept the price low yet made the handle metal again. Thank goodness. Made in China, of course, and it's pot metal not plated brass, but I believe it's always been that way. This handle is slightly cheaper-feeling than the original because it flops a bit off its axis -- the rod is looser thru the tank bushing -- but maybe that will keep it from binding like the original. It also won't last forever like Crane or Kohler handles from the 1960s, but amply compensated by its current reasonable price!

My flusher handle had been not bouncing up and last night I noticed the toilet was running after I left the room. This of course will quickly raise my water bill and waste water. I was not sure what part to get but found the number under the lid of my tank and this looked the same so I ordered one to be delivered this morning. The hardest part was getting the old one off. It must have been there awhile because it would not budge. I was turning it the right way but the pliers were just snapping off old brittle plastic. Eventually I worked it free and got it out of there.Put the new one through and I just hand tightened the new one on. I'll check later but with plastic I think hand tightening might be sufficient. The directions really did not say to use tools or not so I didn't. Attached the chain and flushed and all is fixed. After removing the other one it only took me about 2 minutes to install this and it's working perfectly.I decided to purchase three more to replace them on all my other toilets rather than waiting for them to fail and waste even more water.Great purchase, exactly the same part for my toilet that has to be 17 years old because our house was built in 2005. Very happyThanks for reading my review

After 35 years the original lever failed. This is a good replacement lever and at a great price.

Installation was super easy! But… So the device works. But notice the “rod”/lever is made of black plastic, with a “+” cross section. The one I was replacing was a bent rod of some metal, probably brass, which I’ve unfortunately already discarded, so no photo. The plastic rod has a certain amount of “give” to it that you can feel when actuating the handle. You push on the handle and it turns, and you feel the slight moving of the weight of the chain to the flushing flap. But after that few degrees movement, instead of feeling the weight of the flap moving you can feel the plastic bending and bending… and bending. Then, all of a sudden, the flap pulls up.Honestly, the first dozen or so times I used it I thought the plastic would break, it feels that flimsy. But it’s survived use the last several weeks, so I guess it’s o’kay. But the flimsiness gives it a… cheap feel, for lack of better words. If they are going to use plastic, which is perfectly fine, then they need to redesign the rod. Probably make it a bigger “plus” cross-section to stiffen it. Really, it’s an easy fix. We’ll see if it survives the next few years. Cause, as far as I know the previous flusher was original to the toilet, which my parents installed 40 years ago.

Very simple to install, no trick or tools needed. I was out of washroom in 5 mins replacing the old broken one. Has been working fine with no issues at all with shine of handle and plastic arm inside is strong.

The supplied handle is now the standard replacement for Kohler toilets. My toilet is older so I needed to modify the handle to fit. I used a heat gun to straighten the lever inside the toilet tank. I also had to shorten the internal lever to replicate the unit I was replacing. This also meant drilling a hole at the end of the internal lever. The toilet handle now works perfectly. The results are worth the effort and easier than searching through second hand outlets.
