Based on my first use of this, a few hours ago, I consider it a good buy. It seems ideal for quick jobs where lines have already been defined. I can see it working where the aim is to define or sharpen lines too. My opinion is that the strength of the tool is convenience. My edges will still be maintained mostly via my 2-cyle gas edging machine. I expect that this tool will last long. My only gripe has to do with the length of the pole/handle; I am a little over 6' tall and the handle felt ideally suited to someone shorter. If the handle does fail or become a nuisance, I will replace it with a longer handle.

If you have ALREADY well cultivated soil, this will do a good job of turning it back away from the edge you want to keep. It will also do an adequate job of cleaning up the edge of any soil or sod at the border. It will NOT cultivate compacted soil or cut existing sod without significant effort. It also doesn't handle corners well, but it will get close enough to the corner that finishing the corner with a hori-hori or garden spade will not be a big deal. It also only works one way, with the garden soil to be turned on your right and the sod or other area to your left, so if you have any obstacles or walls to contend with, you will not be able to reverse it and turn around to work the other direction. So, if you don't mind a uni-tasking tool in your shed and are looking for something to easily turn soil and clean up the edge of an already established garden border or row in already well cultivated soil, this is a great tool for doing that quickly and easily. It will get the job done neatly, evenly, and MUCH faster than you could do it with a spade or shovel.

Comes unsharpened!! Make sure you have the ability to sharpen it by yourself or someone you know! Works great after sharpened!

I was excited for this tool because I edge a lot. However at 61 with clay soil it is just way too hard to use. The blade seems dull right out of the box. I was disappointed and I do not recommend it.

The blade is not sharp, which with small kids around I viewed as not the end of the world. It does take quite a bit of effort to use. I was testing the tool out on the edge of a bed I had trimmed up with a shovel 2 weeks ago. In the four feet that I got before the handle snapped it seemed to be doing its job cleaning up the edge. The tool is riveted onto the very tapered handle which was not going to be an off the shelf replacement. Instead of modifying the tool and figuring out how to make a more sturdy handle work (which was probably going to require the wood lathe and significant amount of work) it was returned and a 1 star review produced because because at this point it is not worth the effort. Also, to anyone thinking they will just sharpen this thing, it is cheap/soft high carbon steel. You can probably put a razor edge on it, but it will not hold that edge for more than a foot or two at a time at best.

The first one I got had a messed up edge, but the company quickly replaced it with a new one. I have used this several times for edging at this point, new and existing edged areas. To edge a side walk for the first time, it takes a bit of force, but is very doable. If you are edging a trench for a garden, you will need to start with a shovel (which you would likely need with any other tool), but this finishes up the job quite well. For cleaning up already edged areas this thing works with very little effort!

This will be useful after I make some modifications. But not too great as it comes. There is no sharp edge just a slight angle so I will have to grind the edges down to get it Sharp. Also the metal head wobbles around on the wooden handle. It's screwed on so I don't think it will come off but it will be annoying to work with when the head is wobbling all around. So it has potential but for the price I would have expected it to come ready to use and with better build quality. And for the final bit of annoyance, the sticker that comes on it covers the whole thing and doesn't come off cleanly so I will have a bunch of sticky residue covered in dirt.

I thought this might end up gimic-y but I'm pleasantly surprised. Major con is the length of the handle. I'm 6'2" and I really have to bend over to use. Minor con is the size of the blade, it'd be perfect if it was 1 to 1.5 inches longer in each direction. I've found it best to cut the edge with a power stick edger, then trace that with the kwik edger. It's also really good at cleaning out any 90 degree angle between say a walkway and stone edging or a driveway and stone edging. Once an edge is established this tool is really great at maintaining an smooth, hard edge.
