Complete kit, includes alkaline batteries.Already came in handy to measure multiple rooms for carpeting estimates. Fairly simple design, but - as with any new electronic measuring device, - you're well advised to read through the pretty comprehensive included paper based manual. For once, a nice printed manual with text large enough I don't have to scan and magnify to read!The built in area calculation function is great for measuring rooms. Especially nice is the built-in foldable corner aid (a small plastic rectangular stick which pivots out from its safe perch on the base of the device. Good for tight corners where you cannot fit the base of the device close enough to the corner you're working from.Another nice feature is the threaded mounting hole which seems to be a standard thread: it fits the same tripod stand I use for my laser leveling tool. Nice surprise when I noticed it.Although the package includes a nifty drawstring bag for the device, there's no way I'd risk putting it in one of my tool boxes, near any heavy or sharp tools. I'll cut a custom hole for the device from a block of foam when it comes time to bring with me on a project.Much more convenient than using multiple tape measures on projects, I look forward to using this on a regular basis.It's accurate for me, and its internal volume calculator makes it very useful to quickly estimate room volumes for fans and filters..Recommended. Couldn't find anything wrong with this unit, especially at a listed price which seems reasonable to me.

This laser measure has more functions, such as calculating Pythagoran values, than I'll use, but for the basics such as distance, length and area, it's great.Measuring about 2 x 4.75 x 1.25 inches, it's compact and weighs only a few ounces. The 2 inch screen is backlit, but I wish the illumination were a bit stronger. A fabric storage bag is included, but the screen seems vulnerable. I'd suggest carrying in a separate pocket or compartment where it won't get accidentally damaged or shop around for a hard case.The device is powered by two AA batteries, which are included. The vendor claims a 20 second time out to avoid battery drain.You can choose one of three reference points as the base for your measurements: one at the very front of the unit, one at the rear and then one at the end of a fold-out extension whicch they say is handy when measuring from a corner. There are also two spirit levels, which I found somewhat difficult to use because of lack of contrast between the bubble, surrounding fluid and color of the case. Finally, there is a 1/4-20 tripod screw socket on the back of the unit.A well-written English language 16 page section of a multilingual manual is also provided and I strongly advise reading it. As I said earlier, this unit has lots of capabilities.For my needs, this unit covers all the bases and I'm very glad to have it. It's light, compact and accurate.Jerry

You've got to wonder about a device that reads out to the thousandths. How accurate can that really be? Well, the answer to that is - I'm not quite sure, because literally nothing else that I have can read 100m to the thousandth (yes, I have things that will measure a millimeter - but they won't measure the other 100m at the same time). But the readings at the other decimal places are spot on, so I'm not doubting the thousandths either. And that was my interest in this device - quick, convenient, accurate readings - and I'm very pleased with all three aspects of this device. Someone else said read the instructions, and I concur - it's helpful. It seems well made, but I wouldn't drop it. Recommended.

I got this laser measure for when it's impractical to use a tape measure. The very short manual is a must-read on this guy, so don't skip that or you may be confused or frustrated. It comes with everything you need to get started, batteries included! Backlit screen, spirit levels, a kickstand, and even a mounting post thread is provided so it's easy to get quality measurements. The less than $40 price at the time of writing represents a good value. The only real confusing thing about this measure is that you need to remember to set your "reference point". By default it's set for the back of the unit, which is great for measuring an entire room, but may lead to some initial confusion. Again, read the manual and you'll be fine.I didn't like a few things, build quality is a bit iffy so you may want to keep the unit protected and it does come with a sleeve which should protect the screen from scratches but I'm not sure it would survive a ride in a toolbox very well. The screen can be hard to read off-angle while the back light is on. It would be nice to have had a rechargeable battery instead of 2 AA batteries, but I suppose it helps save cost.Overall, I'd say this is a good buy and should work well for a long time if you treat it gently and familiarize yourself with the controls.

This is a handy laser measure that I wished I had when I moved into my home several years ago. But better late that never. It runs on batteries, which is included. It shuts off automatically after 3 minutes if no buttons are pressed, which is a good feature so as not to deplete the batteries. I'm still learning all the features, but so far basic measurements like room size, and distances have been accurate. I can see this would be handy for DIY individuals, realtors, designers, and for construction.**As with any items that have a laser beam, keep this out of the reach of children.
