I purchased this so my wife would beat me with it. We originally bought two of the “other†black leather fly swatters (the ones with the heavy duty metal wire handles) so I’ll try and compare:Obviously as a well adjusted married couple the first thing we did (before murdering flies) was smack each other with them a few times (for science) and both of us had a fairly strong reaction. My wife isn’t a very large person and doesn’t hit hard enough in most instances to have the desired effect but the combination of flappy leather and the leverage from the wire handle (or maybe she was just made at me) was enough to actually think about how much fun it would be seeing her use it to correct my behavior as she deemed necessary…or just hear me apologize and beg for forgiveness for how I stack the dishwasher. Either sounds delightful really. Imagine my disappointment when the one I designated “for bedroom use†was unceremoniously used to kill a fly by my wife. Maybe she is more cruel than I give her credit for…So…I purchased this wooden version shortly thereafter to clearly differentiate between the wooden handled brown “fun time†swatter and the black leather and wire “fly murder†swatters thinking they would be similar enough in feel but no one would end up with big guts on their backside. Although I admit I did use toy cleaner and disenfectant on the black leather one and personally feel like it’s clear for play. (My wife may disagree). To compare:The handle on the brown fun time swatter is longer than the black murder swatter (a common gripe about the murder swatter is the handle length- but is not an issue for either of us when killing flies). The wooden handled swatter appears to be real leather while the black one is PU or Vegan leather. Both are well secured although the brown wooden one has extra rivets so the point goes to that one. They both offer a satisfying “smack†sound and seem to be an upgrade over the classic plastic fly swatter. The brown one is possibly lighter due to the smaller amount of material on the end and the wooden handle over metal. When smacking something with force this isn’t always a good thing but if you have a lot of flies to kill and don’t want a workout, maybe the wooden one is better. Aesthetically the wooden one looks nicer and aesthetics do matter in any case.My initial impression is that the brown swatter would be more akin to a paddle. You may get decent leverage but you’ll be delivering single well defined strokes to your ummmm…prey. The black leather version would be more versatile and functions more like a heavy duty riding crop. It has better weight and more whip to the handle which should allow smaller or more timid people to hit harder and in rapid succession…again…for flies.

Bottom Line: I read sarcasm in some reviews of simple products such as fly swatters. This is no sarcasm here. All kidding aside, even something as simple as a fly swatter could actually be flawed in its design; after all, the air movement as you swing the swatter could actually cause the fly or mosquito to be blown away. This fly swatter is a sure thing for mosquitoes and flies.Use: I have used this fly swatter for about three months. I have used it to rid my house of dozens of flies and mosquitoes. I have struck furniture at odd angles (to include corners), hard countertops, mirrors and even walls. As humorous as it could sound, this swatter has been lethal (as well as durable).

The appearance and quality are impressive. However, it moves through the air slower than plastic ones. Some flies live another day.

While your children may think you’ve left your adult time implementations out, let me tell you why this is worth the buy. First of all, solid leather with air holes cut in it means it stands up to abuse and fly dispatches repeatedly. Unlike the flimsy plastic swatters that crack, rip and break this one stands the test of time. Cheap plastic fly swatters seem to move the air so fast it blows the fly off its intended bullseye. Not the leather one! Oh no- the leather one is more stable assuring accurate aim to help you accrue carcasses. The bodies will pile up with this leather fly swatter, it’s easy to clean, the weight is perfect, the wooden handle means your swatter doesn’t move off to the side when executing lethal force. Five star review for this awesome vermin destroyer!

Nice looking but not as effective as the cheap metal and plastic ones. They are a bit too heavy and you can't get the quick swat.

These are very sturdy. They hold up better than the plastic ones.

Seems like a nice heavy duty swatter but after one week both leather swatter heads started splitting and tearing on both sides where they attached to the wood handles

We have dogs, so flies are a given. I have tried many types of fly swatters over the years … NO other comes close. Very well built with leather sewn around the edges. Leather is flexible enough to “wrap†around any non-flat surface, incl a table edge, your leg or arm, yet heavy duty enough to provide plenty of fly killing momentum. So there is no escape. I plan to have one of these in every room!

Great quality handle, very sturdy. The leather is a bit softer than I anticipated so it is quite floppy
