My ceiling fan has lost one of its three speeds, the middle one. I replaced one of the internal parts and that did not solve the problem. This looks like a good idea and it works just fine. I can now set the fan to virtually any speed that I want. I will say that the switch does create a hum at some speeds but not all of them. But it does give me a great deal, more control and it works as expected. The installation was very simple.

It does the job.As others noted it does not actually come with the wall plate shown in the photo here. Not Amazon's fault.. the package shows it like that too but says "wallplate sold separately". It's just as well, you need to decide what color plate you want anyway,

Got sick of having to get onto the bed to yank the little string hanging off the fan every time I needed to change the speed of my bedroom fan. Easy to install- just remove the wall switch and reconnect the two wires to this guy. Yes, there is a distinct hum from the fan at slow speeds, but if you grew up in a house with fans and regulators, you may actually find the hum to be “good†white noise like I do. Works well, runs cold, looks great on the wall.

I bought this to regulate speed and reduce sound of 2 blowers. Model: ebm-papst 55416.27250 Crossflow Blower 108 x 271 x 90mm, 115 V (55416 Series). Dial switch adjustments allow for fine tuning of max and min speeds. Variable control works well with a solid click for the off position. Does not include wall plate so had to pick one up.

This fan speed control has a fairly high current rating. I used this to control a pair of small muffin fans which combined draw less than one amp. The five amp rating made me comfortable that this control could handle the pair of fans. Some of the other controls I saw were only rated for one amp.I prefer a push ON/OFF control. However, fan speed controls are rotary ON/OFF and switch ON to start from high speed and dial to lower speed, and switch OFF from high speed. This ensures the fan has maximum breakaway torque on startup.Both fans operate perfectly with this control. I am happy with this purchase and would buy it again if needed.

Not happy with this product. Using to regulate fan speed on wood stove. First unit out of the box did not work. Replacement worked for almost one heating season. Purchased a third one which finished last year's heating season, and made it to January 6th, 2025. This heatng season has been slight due to unreasonably warm weather. Probably used 15 times this year.I ended up putting a regular on/off switch to energize the thermostat to turn the fan on and off.

Original gold round dial control died after 15 years. Replaced it with a Lutron 3 step fan control that had 2 working settings - noisy and noisier. Replaced Lutron with this dial control which is similar to original gold one. White dial is not as shown on Amazon but not a big deal. It has a slower, quiet bottom end range compared to Lutron but dial does have a slight hum at slow end. It doesn't interfere with the TV as the Lutron did. The dial controls the gas fireplace fan speed well.

I use it to control the speed of a muffin fan which is part of a make-shift solder fume extractor. I'm able to get full speed right down to a relatively low speed. Minimum speed is also adjustable via pot on the unit itself.

This works as advertised with a fan motor, but at reduced speed makes the motor hum. This may or may not be a problem, for me it was.
