How Do Taps and Dies Cut?
Taps cut internal threads, such as those found in nuts or within pre-drilled holes. This is known as "tapping." Dies, cut external threads on rods, such as those on screws. This is known as "threading." Taps and dies are also used to repair damaged threads, known as "chasing" a thread. The included tap wrench, T-handle wrench, and screw pitch gauge literally put the power of your tap and dies in the palm of your hands, saving you time, money and hassles during your next project.
Maximized Durability and Usability
The cutting pieces of this tap die set feature high strength GCr15 alloy steel construction, and a titanium coating allowing them to cut through metals including cast iron, aluminum, brass, and carbon steel, while maintaining their durability and rust resistance. The taps and dies are sized from #4 to 1/2-inch, and feature coarse (UNC) fine (UNF) and national pipe (NPT) thread designations, ensuring usability in many hand threading applications.

This is my first time in my life using a tap and die set and I decided to pick this set. It was easier than I thought to use a tap and die set. So far, I used the thread chasers to make some threads on a 2"x4" wood, 5052 aluminum, DOM tubing, ERW tubing, and a steel chassis. Keep in mind that I am using this Neiko tap and die set as a hobbyist and I use the set with hand tools, no drill or anything.I can't say much on how long it will last if you need this for your job but overall, I think it's a great set on the budget if you're doing some projects at home and you plan on using the tools by hand.

Perfect for the home DIYer who wants a decent set of taps and dies to make minor repairs. If you have stripped threads you can usually salvage them with these. Well worth the money.

This is a good set of tap and dies upon inspection. I would rate them above average, but not amazing.The first thing I did with this set and what everybody should do, is inspect every tap and die to make sure there are no defects and that all sizes are present. All sizes were present, and I did not notice any defects visible to the eye.They are advertised as having a brazed titanium coating, I am not an expert and cannot verify this claim. I have another Neiko set of Metric taps and dies and they all have a yellowish tint to them on much of the tool, these meanwhile are all grey/silver. I am no metallurgy expert so can't judge the product based on this alone. There is at least one inconsistency. The sizes on most taps are engraved, while others are etched? It seems unrelated to the size of the tap so not sure what's going on. Maybe they're newer or older taps that have been mixed in. Speaking of the engraving, on some of the dies it's a bit messy. Still forgivable at this price point and considering the overall quality of the tools.The case is not great. The taps are subject to a lot of movement and may roll over each other in shipping which is not ideal. At this price point it's forgivable, but I would not use this as a mobile set and leave it in the garage. The dies seem to remain in place just fine.This is my second set of Neiko taps and dies. I own a larger set specifically in Metric size, and it is definitely of higher quality than this. The price did reflect that however. This set is more of a general use set for smaller fasteners that is perfect for home mechanics or perhaps a pro who wants to supplement a more expensive set.One thing worth noting, Neiko's warranty is far from impressive. It's 30 days for almost all of their tools. That said, tap and dies are consumables and generally are repurchased periodically anyway. I don't see any reason this should steer you away from the product. Neiko is known for making quality tools, even if the warranty is far from competitive. Just make sure you inspect the tools upon arrival!Overall, these are above average. I've certainly seen worse taps and dies at budget stores, and think I will get good usage out of these. I will update my review if they don't hold up. Use cutting oil for best results.

I like it better than what I found at Harbor Freight. I only occasionally need a tap and die, I have used it twice, for the one job I bought it for and an unexpected job, I'm pretty sure you never expect to have to use a tap and die. It worked, no complaints.

The product was inexpensive but I thought I would give it a try based on the reviews. There was only one job a tap was needed for so if the kit worked on that job I would be happy. The tap in question did work fine on the required job. Then since the kit was setting there I began to use it one every old rusty hole in the car I am working on. I felt a real sense of accomplishment reaming out all those old rusty holes that I would have just forced a bolt into with a 1/2 inch ratchet before.I was really impressed to discover there was a vertical style tool for the taps because at first all I saw was the horizontal style. That tool does not work in tight spaces so a crescent wrench was being used on those taps until I spotted the little baby vertical tool.I would recommend this kit without reservation for the price.

The set seems better than most at this price point. I have ordered and sent back other sets that did not meet expectations to the point that they were completely unusable due to horrific quality and poor manufacturing. For the most part this set seems acceptable with a few exceptions. About 4 of the dies had swagging or remaining chunks of metal on the threads that will lead to very poor performance and one was just outright missing the threads on one section. Also several of the taps had heavy flashing or were just plain unfinished so that the cutting thread teeth were rendered useless. I was able to use a jewelers saw and riffler files to clean them up. The oddest defect I have ever seen was also here as well. The steel pin tumbling media used to do a first round clean up had been plated to quite a few of the dies. The pins were stuck tight with thin layer of electroplated titanium nitride. With a bit of effort and force the pins were removed but it was work that should not have to be done in the first place if quality control had been doing their job, if this company even has a QC department. So not perfect by any means but then again they dont cost like an Irwin or Bosch set either so its a compromise. In this case I dont think I would order them again but they are useable enough at this price point that I will keep them. I wish there was an option available for a mid range priced set with at least mid range quality. As it stands you pay a cheap price and play tool roulette hoping for something you dont send back immediately, or you pay a fortune for a good quality tap and die set but feel like its getting the house in a nasty expensive divorce where no one is really happy.

Good selection of sizes and it comes in a nice carrying case with foam and plastic sheet to keep everything in place. The hex cast design makes for a sturdy mount.

Una de las preocupantes diarias del taller es tener tornillos y tuercas las cuales entren en las medidas deseadas por lo tanto este set no resolver la vida dÃa a dÃa por el costo beneficio es un gran campeón ya que es de alta calidad Y no resuelve la problemática que nos podemos enfrentar al no tener una cuerda necesaria en el tornillo necesario sin duda lo recomiendo al 100% para su compra, podrán encontrarse un poco más caros o más lujosos pero sin duda este puede hacer todas las tareas que usted disponga
