Installing USB drivers for OBDLink EX

Most of the time, OBDLink EX installation is a smooth process: the USB drivers should install automatically as soon as you plug it in. Unfortunately, certain laptop models feature a non-compliant USB 3.0 controller which sometimes causes problems for our customers. If you receive "USB not recognized" or similar error messages, try one of the following solutions:

  1. Plug OBDLink into a different USB port
  2. Connect OBDLink via a USB 2.0 hub
  3. Manually install the FTDI USB drivers

If none of the above solutions work, please contact OBDLink Support.

OK if you want trouble free install this is it. Well worth the money for hassle free install. Works period. Quality is verry good. No cheap plastic. Saved me $250 on just the first use. Unit does not come with Forscan you have to download from the web (for free).

Perfect for using FORScan. It's my first time getting into OBD scanners and car programming but this adapter is literally plug and play. Very happy.

It worked right out of the box. Hooked it up to my lap top and plugged into the OBD outlet and bang it worked fine. So I’m saying it’s a win. Not cheap but I’m ok with paying for an item that works. I have an expensive Bluetooth OBD reader and it’s not working with my F150 so I thought I’d go hardwire way.

It is nearly impossible to do any repair's yurself on modern vehicles without the abilty to interrogate the ECM and to run tests. This tool provides the hardware "adapter" to the car's computer systems, and allows software on a laptop to connect to, read, and interact with our car. The adapter is good, but to get the most out of it and what it offers you need good software.I've used this with both OBDLink and ForScan. I have only Ford vehicles (ford trucks and cars, and lincoln car). The ForScan is the software I prefer, and I went ahead and purchased the extended license (1 year for $19 if I remeber correctly). That fee is to help them continue developing the code.I did try it with OBDLink as well, and it worked very well as well. OBDLink is free, but will only allow you to read codes and sensor values, and it may be able to do some tests (didnt get that far with OBDLink). There are other software products out there as well, and they may be compatible with this unit. One of the important aspects is that this is NOT an ELM327 knock-off. It is a completely different solution that works very well. It's fast, reliable, and just works. The ELM327 chip is getting old, and is not compatible with some of the newer protocols. Also, there are a flood of poor quality copies of the ELM327 out there, so stay away from them, buy this unit! The OBDLink EX is the USB version, there is also a bluetooth version. I personally like the USB version so I can attach it to my laptop. The laptop gives me a lot more storage for logging, profiles, etc.I bought this to replace a very old, and very expensive commercial unit that eventually died. This does all it did, and a few more things, especially with the ForScan software.

I thought I would save some money and bought the one from another website. Would not work well with Forscan. I then bought this OBDLink EX FORScan OBD Adapter and Forscan worked great. This is not one item you can go cheap on.

Works great on tablet or laptop using Forscan but dangerous using phone. On tablet it connects right up and Forscan works flawlessly. But if going through Android everything seems fine but majority of time, after 5 or 10 minutes it will shut engine down completely and only was engine will restart is to cycle key. Can be very dangerous if driving to monitor items! Luckily the time it happened to me I was on a street with no traffic. If using phone make sure it cycles through the "kill" or you could be killed yourself.

Worked great out of the box with Forscan on a Windows machine for changing As Built hex entries on my Fusion. You need to know what you're doing, but the "OBDLink EX" FORScan OBD Adapter worked great.

It has a quality look and feel. I have a Ford F150 and use this to connect to my computer so I can use the Forscan software. It performs as stated and is convenient as it switches itself from medium to high speed transfer rates automatically. No need to manually move a toggle switch as in other models.

I used on 2015 ford Mondeo titanium 2 L dieselWorks flawless together with FORSan, on the first go it's fail, then I uninstall all drivers and FORSan also, then step by step installed first driver for obdlinkex, then obd firmware latest version. Then FORSan firmware, then upgraded to it to extended ,it takes 30 minutes to wait until they give you option to download 2 months extended key. After all plugged in the car obd slot and laptop usb , straight away worked and find my car, if you not specialist and use it for enthusiasm then I recommend first save module and backup for forscan and always do step by step and one job at the time then you will know where was mistake and can reverse it
