The installation was straightforward. The 3 flaps work well to insulate from the cold.We have 3 cats and 1 dog. All under 15 lbs. They were all pretty stubborn and wouldn't go through the door so we had to tape up 2 flaps for a few weeks, then reduce it to one flap another few weeks. The cats took about a month to learn. We thought our dog would never learn but eventually she was able to go in and out on her own after a few months and several training sessions. We dog sat for our neighbor and that dog leaned to use the door instantly all 3 flaps no problem! Every animal is different, just need to be patient.

This was easy to install! The only concern is the extra insulation panel does make it harder for my 10lb terrier to push through. It's been harder to get him to go through this one compared to the last one I had that wasn't insulated. I believe he'll figure it out but it's taking more time than expected. Overall, definitely recommend!

We have both single flap and this triple flap Extreme Weather PetSafe doors in use in our home. If installing a pet door in a temperature sensitive part of your home you definitely want to use the Extreme Weather door. We have cats, and of course, the Extreme Weather door is a little harder for them to operate. But once they got used to it they go in and out just fine.

Bought this for my 16 year old cat to put in the door between a finished, heated room and unfinished basement where his litterbox is located. The install was very easy using the template on an interior door and everything went together smoothly. The energy efficiency is great as it seals and insulates well (probably better than the hollow core door it's installed in!!). One negative is that my cat has a difficult time pushing the flaps open due to his age, but after some training and a little coercion, he uses it, with reservation. The manual suggested that the flaps can be adjusted. I found that there is very little play as the flaps seal tightly along the frame and one could actually make the opening force worse by adjusting it incorrectly. Taking the flaps completely out and putting them back in proved to be very difficult because of blind screw holes that need to be aligned. The directions make it sound simple to replace the flaps, which I did not find to be true. All being said, this is a great product and would recommend for indoor uses as well as outdoor. Small dogs will have no issue pushing the flaps open, some cats may struggle.

We bought this so the cats could access their new outdoor enclosure (Catio). This was a critical component to the project. It works very well and the cats figured out how to use it pretty easily. Since there are three panels the manufacturer suggested using duct tape to hold of the middle and inner doors so the cats could get used to pushing through just on door. After a few days we let them get through two and after about five days they easily figured out how to push through all three weatherproof doors. It works great. We have not used it during a Michigan winter yet but I suspect it will insulate pretty well since it is very high quality.

Installed this in the door going out to my garage so I could keep my cat's food out there so my German Shepherd would stop eating the cat's food. Two of us are happy anyway. The dog, not so much since he can't make it out to the cat's food.

Unless you have a standard exterior door this thing is a nightmare to install. The instructions are less than desirable and plastic bolts were not a great design idea. It does seal out most of the weather, however, because of the dark center flap my cats are very reluctant to go out. I would suggest going with transparent material to facilitate the cats being able to see what is on the other side. I have spent most of the past two days convincing them that they can go in and out. In our could weather the plastic is very stiff and makes it difficult for the cats to push through.(After one month)Another suggestion... make sure to measure shoulder height to ensure ease of entry. I didn't get mine high enough and will have to re-install once winter is over. That might help with ease of entry exit. I will reiterate... if you live in cold weather this is probably not the door for you. The plastic becomes very rigid and hinders the cats pushing through three layers of it and has a hard time swinging back a sealing properly. I have to go manually close the inside flap to get it to seal with the magnet. Once it seals it does keep out the wind. I am going to do some tinkering with this once we get warm weather again and see if I can come up with some solutions to the rigid plastic.

Excellent purchase! looks very good and it was super easy to install. Cats are bit reluctant and complain about pushing 3 flaps instead of one, but it works. One comment/complaint - the cover door is easy to attach and almost impossible to remove - have to use pliers to pull it off - there has to be better way to design this!

It never shuts after the cat gets through....it doesn't matter how much you fiddle with it

I use this on the man door from house to garage so my cat can get in and out of the garage where his litter box is kept. Used for about a year now with no complaints. Smallest size works well for an adult cat. A little tricky to cut out the door which might not be an easy job for every one but it can be done.

Not too hard to install. I put it in a wall instead of a door, so it took the cats longer to get used to going through it. They were fine with the one outside flap, but when I put the inside insulated flap on they weren't sure about it. Our younger cat goes in and out no problem, but the older one is being stubborn about going through two flaps. The thickness of the wall is more than a typical door, so that might be part of the problem. Downsides: it is pricey, and I don't like the inner cover, it locks on and is literally a pain to get off.

We’ve been very impressed with the quality of this pet door. We bought it about 2 years ago and it’s lasted through almost 2 Canadian winters and still looks great. We bought the smaller one for our cats. It took them a bit to get used to but now they’re in and out of our garage all the time. One of our cars is a little on the heavier side so it’s a bit of a tight fit but it still works well. If you have a larger cat I’d consider buying the next step up but I’m glad we bought this one because I don’t want other animals coming in to our garage either. One of the neighbors cats figured it out pretty quick.
