I’ve purchased a few of these things to keep on different rope setups. After a few years of using the Rope Runner Pro I went back to the Zig Zag and doubt I’ll ever switch devices again. These things are the smoothest devices on the market and the fact that there is a connection point to receive the return end of rope while using DRT (90% of my climbing) makes the device nearly tend itself while ascending. This feature alone sets it above the competition. While midline attachable devices are handy, I haven’t found that feature to outweigh the benefits I get from the Zig Zag. My Zig Zags stay on my ropes for the most part and just get stashed into my rope bag at the end of every flaking.

Make sure you thread the rope through correctly. Use good, certified climbing rope. Do not use the cheap Chinese rope for climbing. Your life depends on it. It may not have the proper qualities to use these devices safely. A Zigzag Plus along with a good rope is a great experience. I like to use bifrost; but many professional ropes Made in USA are suitable for use with this device. The EU also makes good ropes.

I weigh about 200Lbs and it keeps me in the tree really well. I was so used to having both hands on my climb line to maintain an upright position and tend a prusik cord that it took a while to get comfortable with. Now I just keep my hands on my flipline instead 🤣 It is smoother than a prusik cord and faster on the way down but easy to control.
