For my work at home setup, I wanted to add a third monitor specifically for Teams when my work laptop is docked. My laptop and docking station were limited to two monitors.I originally purchased several generic USB to HDMI adapters to do so. All of them required downloading additional drivers and running an installer. However, due to company IT security policy, drivers outside of Microsoft or not managed by the IT department, require approval and an IT support person with administrator rights to install them. With the Plugable USB 3.0 HDMI adapter, the device is automatically detected by Windows and most importantly, there are Microsoft drivers which are then automatically installed as well. I did not need to download third party drivers and contact IT to run the driver installer with administrator access, which they would have denied anyways. IT said it was fine if the driver is from Microsoft. The major downside is the price. This adapter is EXPENSIVE. However, if you need an additional monitor specifically for a work computer, this USB to HDMI adapter meets the IT security requirement since it doesn't require a third party driver.Well worth the purchase!

This device (UGA-2KHDMI) worked perfectly to add a third distinctly independent monitor to my Surface Pro 6 with docking station, running Windows 11. Initially, I lost audio when all three monitors were connected. This was easily corrected by going to Settings, Sounds, and then clicking the box to select the Surface's internal speakers (RealTek High Definition Audio (SST). Other than this one setting adjustment, this was a plug-and-play install and a great consumer experience. Well done, Plugable.

This works really well . I have no USB-C portion my laptop, any docking station wouldn’t able to connect. Now I can have two monitors hook up. I can extend each monitor.

Literally, plug and play on my windows 11 work machine. I wfh. I have a microsoft surface laptop with only one USB A port, no docking station. So I have to use a USB extender with multiple ports to plug in my mouse and keyboard, which left no room on the laptop to plug in the USB to HDMI converter. A regular USB extender doesn't work for HDMI as it is not meant for video. I learned that the hard way. This converter plugs into my USB extender which is plugged into my laptop. I didn't have to install a driver, and it seems to work perfectly. I use both the stand alone monitor and laptop monitor when working. Well worth the cost for me.

Pretty close to a 5-star product! I bought this for my son in order to hopefully further delay his strong desire for a new desktop computer. His old one died and I kinda semi-permanently loaned him a new laptop I had bought for other purposes. The laptop (like most) only has one output for a monitor (HDMI) and he wanted to be able to have 2 monitors like he previously had when set up on a desktop. Using his laptop screen as one of the two monitors didn't work for him since that cut into his desk space and isn't at the same level.ONE WOULD THINK that there would be a basic product out there that could do this well, and I was initially searching for some kind of HDMI splitter, but I quickly discovered that the splitters just duplicate the same screen instead of allowing you to extend the desktop. I thought about USB since I have a small screen that is USB powered, so I changed up my search and discovered USB adapters. After checking out a ton and reading about many bad experiences, I decided to give this one a gamble. I let my son set it up and when I checked in on him later he said it didn't work. I had read enough reviews about these kind of devices not working that I wasn't TOTALLY surprised, but it had seemed like this one worked for most people. Upon questioning, it was discovered that he hadn't installed the drivers (read instructions? what??? isn't everything plug and play???). After getting that taken care of, it worked right away (much to my son's joy).So why 4 stars? Well, getting to the drivers wasn't terribly straightforward. Would be nice to have a clear pathway to the proper driver with no questions. The link from the directions takes you to a landing page with several options, so there is definitely opportunity for confusion. My son wasn't sure where to go, and I was even a kinda second-guessing myself. But beyond the drivers (which alone wouldn't have made me take away a star) is the color rendition. I definitely noticed a difference in colors, and it was more than my imagination since my son immediately noticed it too. He tried to adjust for it and so did I, but we couldn't quite get it to where it used to be. In the end, he said he was fine with it (not being his primary monitor) and we moved on.If you are using it to run a second monitor (which I would imagine is 95% of the use for this), you'll probably be fine. For a primary monitor it may take a good bit of tweaking to get true colors. This might just be the nature of the beast (running a monitor through a USB plug), so I am not totally slamming what I consider so far to be a nice product. I'd love for it to be half the price, but since it (combined with a USB hub) is saving me from buying a new desktop I would still say it is a pretty good value!

Works better than I expected on my first gen M1 MacBook Air. I've read claims that this product doesn't work with Macs, I've read about lagginess, that video will be choppy, that CPU usage is through the roof and that it won't work in clamshell mode (closed). Well I just received the product today, but it seems that none of this is true on my current setup. I'm on version 1.2 of the DisplayLink driver and on Big Sur 11.2. I have two 1920x1200 Samsung SE650 monitors connected to my Mac via a Lenovo Thinkpad USB-C Dock Gen2 into which this product is plugged in. Youtube videos seem to play perfectly at full resolution even in full screen on all three of my screens. CPU usage barely registered. The laptop is cool as a cucumber. Trying to find a flaw, I've noticed that if I quickly swirl a window around on the monitor plugged into this adaptor I can see an ever so minor difference in smoothness. I'm sure most people wouldn't notice any difference at all.The biggest issue I've discovered is that due to HDCP "protection" Netflix (or any other video that uses HDCP) won't work. The video just appears as a black screen while the sound plays. Worse than that, it won't play on ANY of your screens! As long as DisplayLink is running, Netflix et al won't run AT ALL! That's a bit draconian - and misguided as I have never heard of a video that was successfully stopped from spreading on the torrent sites due to being thwarted by HDCP. It's just the honest users that get affected. Anyway, quitting DisplayLink brings the video back on Netflix - but you can't watch Netflix on your new DisplayLink screen while working on another. It's a shame that an otherwise almost perfect product is hindered in this way deliberately by misguided interests, but there you have it. I guess get this and you'll get more work done with less distractions by Netflix.Edit: One more problem I've encountered - I can no longer sign in to my MacBook Air with my Apple Watch while DisplayLink is running. Some security issue prevents it. Works fine again when DisplayLink is not running.Wish Apple would have allowed dual external monitors (at least in clamshell mode) on the M1 MacBook Air and Pro as they do on the M1 Mac mini. DisplayLink and an expensive adapter isn't an ideal solution.

As I have a Mac Mini M1 with triple monitor I needed an adapter to get the 3rd monitor to work. I sent an email to the Plugable support, where Omar D. got back to me within a day with a recommendation for my needs. Quick delivery, great product. As I have 2 vertically rotated monitor on the side I needed to use the adapter on the centre monitor, but it is working with no issue. Omar even sent me a link for a driver which compatible with my Mac so it made it even easier to set it up. 5 star product, price and customer service!
