I’ve been wanting to try wood inlay for a while with my 1/4 makita router. This kit worked very well. Walnut table top inlay with maple leaves and the bit is still going strong. Maple is very hard and burns easily, so I went slow and cleaned out my channels with the first pass. I bought a second bit due to some of the reviews, but so far, I have not needed it. I have some bluing on the bit, but I expect for it to last my next couple projects at least. Well worth the cost!

Very respectable router accessory. Wish I had bought it sooner.

The router bit was burning when cutting. After manually spinning the bit in my hand, I found that the cutting edge is on the wrong side! Several other reviews also had issues with burning for no reason.I bought another bit to finish my project. I had no problems after replacing the powertec bit.I contacted Powertec and they have a replacement bit on the way. I'll update if they send the correct bit.Update:Powertec sent a new inlay kit with the correct bit. The bit container was a different color (red) than the original, which was blue. I didn't use the bit since I already bought a higher quality one. They have great customer service. Update to 4 stars.

For all the 1 & 2 stars reviews… those folks have no idea how to use this. You can’t go B’s deep at the first go. Light passes… especially in hardwood. It’s an art that may need practice as well. Does come with the center pin… use it. As you can tell in my measurement photos I shot a bit down the side slightly thinking I could just eyeball center. Is the bit on the cheap side, yes, but the purchase should be for the bushings. I picked up a longer reach 1/8 bit as well. And guess what.. still broke it too when cutting in some Purple Heart. That’s part of the game boys and girls.

I love Powertec stuff, so I was incredibly surprised when I mounted the bit and attempted to route out a template , as I’ve done countless times. Smoke rose out of the piece, which refused to move in any direction no matter what I did — almost like it was completely dull.Unfortunately the piece sat for far too long in my shop before I had a chance to use it, as sometimes happens, so returning isn’t an option. As I said, I usually love Powertec stuff, but apparently every brand has an off unit here or there.

If you are planning on routering designs into wood or use with a template, this is a must have for that type of work. Plenty of on lines videos on how to use if you are not familiar. There was a time when I didn’t know something like this existed but once I used it, I couldn’t believe how effective it is and how it simplifies the job. Like anything else, right tool for the right job.

Edit: from 5 to 3 star.Bowties are a cinch now.The brass bushing and removable grommet work amazing. Perfect fit everytime.Edit:The bit included is less than stellar and broke very soon while making several bowties. I own several Milescraft brand spiral down cut bits that work much better for much longer.I would recommend purchasing several backup bits.

I used this kit to do over a dozen bowtie inlays for an ash end table and they all came out perfectly. If you take your time you'll get good results. I often use a medium thread loc on my other router guide bushings to keep them from coming loose. I did the same on this kit and now cannot get them apart so I'll be buying a new kit to get the large ring out of it so I can use it again with that other kit. Sooooo, don't use thread loc on this kit an you should be fine. Highly reccomend. Great value for the money

Very good.Easy to use.Using templates, taking my time and with a bit of care managed to create an inlay without making a mistake.

I only used it about 6 times and the part of it snapped off the main part of the bush
