The tool works best in top soil or worked ground. You can not just force it into hard soil and not bend something. It is excellent in my raised beds and large containers. The equal size holes make planting bulbs and young starts simple. Twisting the unit in the soil as you squeeze the handle creates a nice pocket to plant in.

Wife found it a bit hard to get device to 'grip' soil ... fair hand strength needed. Not a 'flaw' with device, but buyer should be aware this device mimics a post hole digger in the way it grabs the dirt only it is just one hand doing the squeezing.

The device is well built and the idea a good one BUT the spring is so strong (to grab the dirt) I have difficulty using it. I am older and am currently having some wrist problems so that may be a factor. Hopefully when my wrists are better it'll work better......or I can see if I can replace the spring.

Broke on first use. Needs to be made with better parts. Really wanted it to work. Maybe if they came out with a stronger model.

It does exactly what you'd expect. Works best in fairly dry soil. Wet soil sticks to the blades. I gave it 4 stars only because I think it should be at least an inch or so bigger so fewer trips are needed.

Ordered to help plant a veg garden but completed before it arrived. We'll try it in the future, but no complaints. It appears to be built well and suitable for use with small plantings
