So why did I give this 4 stars if I had problems with the unit. Well, I purchased the unit, installed it exactly as the last unit was installed and the blew 3 fuses after the initial use. I sent it back and had a replacement sent, again same thing, worked on the first use and blew 2 fuses. I contacted the company and they provided a solution. Only place the igniter/ heating element 1/4-1/2 inches inside the firebox. After receiving a replacement igniter, I did as described. The unit has worked fine through 20+ uses. So it Turns out the heating will fail if it is placed further inside the box(as the original igniter is placed). So I gave it a 4 because it works great after receiving instructions, but I should give it a 2 for the hassle of removing and replacing the unit twice and the igniter 3 times. PLEASE put instructions in the box so other people don’t waste so much time and leave negative reviews because of the lack of foresight. Customer service is the reason for the 4.

The controller quit working the 2nd time we used it. Does not hold temp and ran past the set temps and ruined a very expensive Salmon we were trying to smoke. Come on man!

I replaced mine in under 10 minutes. Easy to use and install. Unplug and plug in that’s it.
