We use this portable when running around in the dinghy. The GPS navigation is a bit funky. I haven't found the setting, but distance to waypoint is useless indicating you are less than 1 mile. There must be a way for it to change to feet/meters for better resolution.Edit 2/11- Retevis has identified the issue and confirms the display won't show resolution less than 1nm. They are working to fix the problem. They have been very responsive in solving the problem. Hopefully it will just be a software update and the radios can be programmed.

The GPS Feature, is very disappointing. This radio makes you go in and upload the co-ordinances. Very difficult and time consuming. Instructions for this feature is very poor, at best in my opinion. This should have a feature to automatically identify it's location. This is such outdated feature in today's world. I recommend purchasing without this feature. Better yet, stay with a Standard, Uniden or Cobra Radio. Pricing is better, and they have a track record.

We've had this out on the Atlantic and the Gulf, testing it out and it works great. Updates your GPS location in real time and has great accuracy.While we haven't used the SOS feature, we've familiarized ourselves with it, so we know how to use it. The directions aren't the best, but it's easy to figure out. You can send your current location out with the SOS to the Coast Guard and nearby boaters.I recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to use this radio, if you have any questions. There are a few up for it.

This vhf radio works great. Though thankfully I haven’t had to use it for an emergency yet. With all of the questionable reviews I hesitated buying this but bought it any way since it was significantly cheaper than other radios with the same features. I don’t have any problems with this and like it.You do not have to load your gps co-ordinates like someone mentioned. It tracks gps fine automatically and will send your coordinates using DSC automatically. It does give you the option to load co-ordinates manually if needed but isn’t required.To use the DSC feature you do need to have a boat and register for an MSI number (free through usps.org) Once your MSI number is entered into the radio it is locked to that boat which is standard with all DSC capable radios. You can use use the radio without registering it. You can even use it on another boat but you just can’t use the DSC feature. The battery charges fine and holds a solid charge. The earphone/data cover mentioned in another review needs to be firmly pressed and snapped in the place. It is tight enough to prevent water from getting to the terminal. It is a little bulky but fits comfortably in my life jacket pocket. All in all glad I purchased this.
