I’m just reviewing the sensor. I am a homeowner making ends meet. If you are not comfortable hire a professional . I am NOT a professional . Enter at your own risk.Bought this sensor for a Rheem performance water heater with a Honeywell regulator. Water heater purchased 2016. My understanding is the sensor doesn’t care what brand of water heater it is. It only cares about the regulator. That’s what it shuts off .Problem:No hot water. Led indicator flashing 7 times indicating flammable vapor sensor lockout. Assuming there are no flammable vapors in the vicinity of the water heater the reset procedure is turn off the regulator , unplug the power cord for the regulator, turn the temp setting to low, plug the power cord back into the power outlet, turn on the regulator , and cycle the temp selector from low to high and back to low 7 times. You will probably hear the gas kick on by the 4th cycle but do all 7 and then set it where you want it. I continued to get shutdowns so ordered this sensor. Easy to replace. Pop out the old and disconnect and connect and pop in the new one. Two wires from the regulator with female spade connectors and two male connectors on the sensor. Not sure but my guess is you can not make a mistake. Takes less than 5 minutes . My old sensor ohmed at 0 and so did my new one. Go figure. Probably operator error . So far the new sensor has not created a shutdown . It’s early and if this system lets me update with any issue I will. I am ordering another one of these sensors and storing it with the hot water heater as a backup.Good luck.As I said at the beginning—you do this at your own risk. I am not a pro.See the pics for more info.

this replaced the sensor on my 2017 O J Smith water heater that listed for $92.00. A fraction of the cost and an exact physical match in size, connection, and resistance reading right within spec. Installed and working.

Fixed our issue, easy enough repair after Google searches. We are finishing our basement and have painted trim work. The sprayed enamel paint tripped the Flammable Vapor Sensor on our AO Smith water heater. No reset methodology would work (I even pulled the sensor and moved it do a different part of the house overnight). Ordered this replacement part on a Saturday and had it Monday before noon. Part did what it was supposed to, water heater is up and running again. It’s an easy replacement and certainly a do it yourself vs. calling a repair person who will likely charge you $150 just for showing up on a $25 part. The downside of these are - you need the one you need, there aren’t really “options”. If yours dies you need a new one. They’re finicky, as I said mine wouldn’t reset and I read a lot of people having issues with these and their durability / reliability. It’s almost worth having a spare on hand (though if you google right you can find some temporary bypass solutions). $23 is the cheapest I could find this part which is really probably a $3 resistor at best. Crazy price for a cheap part, but it is what it is and this one does the job. Certainly don’t need to pay $50-$70 for other versions of this.

Let me start by saying "IT WORKED"!! This is important because at 11pm on a Thursday (before Memorial Day no less) my daughter discovered the hot water heater had quit working the hard way. She had to rinse off in ice cold tap water. I diagnosed the problem and had the part on order through Amazon by midnight for expedited delivery on Saturday. Friday, with no hot water was not great for the whole family. Saturday, the part arrived, I installed it and viola! Hot Water. My Richmond water heater, only about 3 years old, was indicating a FVS Lockout on the Honeywell Controller. FVS is the Flammable Vapor Sensor, something common to pilotless models to make sure there are no leaks before igniting. That is a good thing when it functions right. Its also a good thing when it fails that it prevents operation. Well, except for the cold showers, its a good thing. This set comes with the housing around the actual sensor. Why, because you can remove the old housing from the water heater itself, but the way the FVS installs in the housing you would destroy the housing removing the defective FVS. So the housing is there for a reason. The same thing for the tie wrap. You'll need to remove your wiring harness from the control unit, then carefully use pliers to pull the wire connectors from the defective FVS. I installed the harness first because I wanted to be careful to connect to the right terminals. I don't know that it matters, but I did not want to take a chance (two days without hot water if you recall). I carefully feed the harness through the housing and easily snapped the FVS in place. The chamfer on the edge of the FVS should allow easy insertion, but the blade (terminal) side goes into the housing FIRST. The part numbers were not an exact match, but cross checking indicated this to be a new replacement for my defective one. Hopefully the part number difference indicates a new and improved part. These things seem to have reliability issues. I guess over three years to savings in natural gas was worth it.Finally, I checked Amazon for this part in desperation. No one locally had it in stock. I could order the it might arrive the Tuesday or Wednesday after Memorial Day, leaving us without hot water for nearly a week. Thankfully Amazon exists and has priority shipping. No matter what a certain world "leader" thinks, Amazon exists due to this extreme level of customer service. If brick-and-mortar stores would actually take customer needs and service seriously, they would not have these problems. I prefer to buy local when I can. No hot water makes expedient service all the more important.

Thanks to Amazon and Rheem's online store, and a little YouTube research, I was able to spend less than $30 for this part and fix my hot water heater. This was after paying a $100 service fee, just to be told that my only option was a full replacement, but that if I wanted to avoid insurance, that he'd install one of my choosing for $750. Clearly he picked the wrong sucker! This is a very easy fix and I will shout it from the rooftops because hot water is a wonderful thing! :)

My unit on home furnace needed replacement and these cane it handy. Bought an extra to have on hand in case it fails again during winter time. Good product. 2 years so far with it and no issues.

I bought one locally a few years ago for over 3x this price. Worked fine, easy to install even if you have no idea what you're doing, if you can plug an appliance into the wall you can install this. All you need is a flathead screwdriver to pry the old one off (you could use a butterknife also)Reminder than most tanks require a reset after installing so if you plug it in and its still giving you an error just initiate a tank reset. (Can check google for how to do so)

This is a great product! It was very easy to replace and works perfectly. Best of all, it’s much more affordable than the same item listed on Rheem’s website. Just make sure to check with a professional to ensure proper installation. Not responsible for any misuse. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a reliable and cost-effective option.

I’m so great full for this little sensor! I tried to reset mine on my hot water tank several times. I watched a few YouTube’s and l looked at the error codes on the tank. THIS little angel fixed my problem. Fast delivery and great instructions. Probably saved me $300.
