I had to pierce a garage wall in a few spots before I caved and tossed aside my old stud-edge finder to pick this up. This stud finder is effective and accurate, and the multiple LEDs help provide a much more accurate idea of a stud's location compared to an edge finder. To top it off, this stud finder has an almost stupidly simple design feature that should be the industry standard: A button on the center of the unit that pushes out a punch to easily mark the wall behind it. The punch itself is effective enough to dimple drywall, but I think it would be easy to put some form of ink or toner on the end to make surface marks instead.The only drawback I can see is the price, but then again it could save you some drywall rework with missed stud holes.

I really like that this stud finder shows you the entire width of the stud; it's been really helpful in mounting TVs on the wall, because the mounts really need to be centered on the stud. That being said, it has a little bit of trouble finding the studs. About two times out of five, the lights start flashing to indicate it's having problems. Not a huge deal, as you just try again, but it can be a little annoying.

The Ryobi stud finder is just okay overall. I’ve always liked Ryobi products, which is why I decided to give this one a try. However, finding studs with this device hasn’t been as easy as I expected. Even after calibrating it before each use, which is a bit complicated and takes multiple tries, I still had to drill five holes before I actually hit a stud.It does work eventually, but the setup process each time makes it feel more tedious than it should be. For a brand I trust, I was hoping for something more straightforward.

It found a stud once, then not again. I'm scared of my domicile now. It is apparently all unsupported drywall.

I found this device to work much better than another one I had. Very easy to find studs--center and edges--and the dimple creator worker very well.

Love Ryobi products but this item was not as reliable as my other Ryobi tools. Drills, impact drill, circular saw etc. It was sketchy at best in defining the exact placement of easy 2x4 studs in new garage. Simple drywall cover. Was not accurate. Frustrating. Secured a different brand stud finder to finish my projects. Disappointed.
