If you ever struggled to make straight threads with a tap, this is a solution for you! I set this up on my lathe as shown in the picture and then hand tapped the thread to make a nut. Worked better than I expected.

The one with the kneeling is rough, has much pressure, was rusty when received.Once I lubed it, it works GREAT

I use this to align a T-handle tap wrench to tap holes. Works great. Only complaint is the spring pressure is a bit too much for real small taps (like 3mm). I tapped some 3mm holes in aluminum using one of these for tap line up. Ended up with some sloppy tapped holes. If you use these for small taps, just tap 3-4 threads and finish by hand. Still a great tool, just have to learn the quirks.

After reading reviews about how rough the finish was and how gritty the internals were, I got exactly what I expected. Great little tools for general all-around use, if you want perfection, go buy a CNC tool.

Works great. In fact. for the smaller one. i made a new center shaft that i can change out to use with taps that have a point instead of a center hole. the spring in the larger one feels a little weak but, i have not used it yet. if weak. i can fix that. I know others gave some of these bad reviews, but for the $$$$, if you have an issue and you can't fix it, you need to find a new line of work.

The bottom unit on the Amazon image ( as made by MrPete on Youtube ) works well enough and the finish is good.In the top unit, the pin is stuck solid and took quite some effort to dislodge. It must have been hammered in on assembly - is there no QC out there !The problem is that the pilot hole and the rest o the barrel is not aligned. This forces the pin against the side of the barrel as the pin moves upward - add the OD of the spring and the unit locks up solid. You need the spring to align the pin inside the barrel , you can not ream the pilot hole , as this will cause the pin to wobble and defeat the object of the tool design. On the positive side - the rear end of this pin is concave and will facilitate the use on very small taps.CarlCenturion
