I did not buy this to pick up snakes. I did buy it to grab items, like outdoor rugs, that were too heavy to use regular pickup tongs for that purpose. I have joint issues so no bending over.It works great for that. It is Well built. I disconnected the auto lock on the side with a screwdriver. Since I had no need for that.

Borrowed my neighbors tong. Steel wire that runs through the shaft separated on the grab end right before it loops around the the pin. Can't find company info anywhere. Looked pretty but failed the first time out.

It works good to catch snakes however I think the metal tongs should have some sort of rubber coating on them for better grip and also less discomfort for the snake.
