The tailgate on my 2006 Silverado 1500 work truck was not closing tightly, and rattling around while driving. I originally replaced the tailgate studs and rubber bumpers, which made an improvement but did not correct the problem. These latches, along with the studs have the tailgate closing solidly and opening up great as well, without the handle sticking or needed excessive force.However, the included bolts (one Phillips, one Torx 45) do not match the OEM head sizes, and the "offset" for the lower bolt to attach to the tailgate cables is larger than OEM, meaning there is some "slop" in the cable. I decided to use the OEM bolts on the bottom, even though they don't look as nice.

They look great, however I had to remove the old clips off the old latches because the clips on this one were not long enough to clip onto the rod. The other issue is that the don’t open and shut smoothly, there is some friction and you do need to put more effort into it than normal.

They fit up with the bolt holes in the tailgate, and the release mechanism arms clipped right in, but the gate wouldn’t latch. There are big rubber blocks inside that prevented the catches from rotating all the way. I cut the rubber blocks out, and then the gate would latch if closed gently but not if closed with any force. They also took a lot of effort at the handle to get them to release. I put the worn originals back on and the gate is back to its previous ‘okay’ function. Assuming I can’t return these after modifying them, so I guess they were just a waste. Looks like I’m spending even more money on some OEM latches. Bummer.

I don't know what people are talking about with the bad reviews?? These fit perfect and I can push my tailgate closed with ease. No more slamming it shut. Took 8 minutes to install both. **I did use the factory mounting bolts tho. The ones that come with it are sketchy

Excellent replacement for failed tailgate latches.I used my original bolts instead of the new ones because mine were actual bolt heads and the new ones in this pack are a large torx head screw.
