I needed a way to detect if my garage door was fully up and open. My door height is only 7’ and my pickup truck with antenna comes within 6†of it. I wanted something non contact and preferably optical to light a light that would tell me that the door was fully up before backing out.This switch fits the bill perfectly. It’s a universal input voltage which means it will operate from 24V to 1240V AC or DC which was perfect. It has a form C relay rated for 3 amps which I used to control a green LED bulb.The device is made in China, no big surprise, but works as it should. The max it would sense my hand was about 10†and adjusting the distance pot past about half way made no change. A proper reflector might have made a difference but it wasn’t necessary for my application.It comes with a nice adjustable steel bracket, the attached cable is 2M or about 6’. The wire gauge is pretty thin, maybe 22AWG and there is no UL electrical certification.I wouldn’t use this for an industrial or commercial applications, but for home / hobby its more than adequate.

Built an electronic mousetrap using this sensor. It’s detecting the mice perfectly and it’s instant death for the mice; they don’t have a chance.

The switch can either open or close when the sensor detects movement. Works great to turn on crossing lights when train passes.
