This is the best design I've come across to increase skimmer basket suction. It relies on the suction to keep it in place, so it's easy to remove when the basket needs to be dumped out & cleaned. I've been using this for at least 6 months now, and have not had to skim my pool at all. We have a giant ficus tree that drops leaves as well as several hibiscus trees that drop flowers. Anything that floats gets sucked into the basket. Great product!!

Works extremely well, great idea. Only one thing that needs to be changed, drill a small hole on the side and include a zip tie. They are not heavy enough to stay on the skimmer basket, once the pump shut off, they do drift.

This is such a simple and effective way to improve the performance of a pool skimmer basket. We have a new pool with great flow on the jets and return, but our filter basket sits so deep that the suction will not pull the floating debris (bugs, grass clippings, leaves, wood mulch, etc.) down into the bottom of the skimmer basket. Instead, most debris will just float over the basket. Then, when the pump turns off, the debris would float back into the pool. Adding the Skimmie Cyclone creates a downward vortex that pulls in everything - even the bugs trying to swim or float on top. It's just awesome. It improves the performance of the skimmer basket by 10x. Because this makes the skimmer more effective, less debris ends up on the bottom of the pool. Truly a great product.

Like many products I buy these days, this cyclone is poorly designed and required that I modify it.The cyclone lacks adequate weight to ensure it does not move when the filter pump is turns on or off for my inground pool. I A simple ring of metal at the base of the cyclone, embedded into the cyclone, to prevent corrosion, would be the correct design fix.I drilled two holes at her base which are 180 degrees apart, then slipped zip ties through the holes and the skimmer basket to keep the cyclone from moving when the filter pump stops running. This makes it a little more difficult to empty the filter basket but the cyclone effect is worth it since it pulls more debris from the surface of the water instead of letting debris pass by the skimmer.A better fix would be to make the cyclone a package deal with a skimmer basket. The cyclone would have plastic male snap tabs which would fit into corresponding female snap sockets on the skimmer basket. This would ensure the cyclone does not move when the filter pump turns on or off. Since the cyclone would easily detach from the included skimmer basket, this would make it easy to empty the basket for cleaning.I should have been a design engineer but my degree is in IT and I make too much money to change careers now.

This is an interesting product for sure, and it does work, but not as well as I would have hoped.Let's start with the good. When properly installed it will cause a vortex to form in your skimmer basket. This serves a couple of practical purposes. First it allows you to run your skimmer at a lower flow rate and still suck debris down into the basket. This allows me to divert more suction to my auto pool vac. Secondly, and more importantly, the vortex allows the skimmer to easily suck in the dust and light debris that floats on thr top of the water that just has a tendency to float at the top of your skimmer and not get sucked down. The product works well and accomplishes both of those goals. However, this is not without drawbacks. Most notably, it requires removal of the flap found in most skimmers, otherwise the vortex will flat out just not form, or in my case, when the product is installed upright it physically touches and interferes with the operation of the flap. This is a bit problematic because this flap is there for a reason, to effectively concentrate the skimmers suction to thr top most layer of water, to maximize the range it is able to suck in debris from the top of the pool. To you know, skim the surface. While the vortex does help contract this somewhat, the effect is that objects must get much closer to the skimmer to actually get sucked in. However, it does solve my problem of removing the fine dust particles that tend to float on thr top of the water which was the major reason I bought it.One other thing to note is that at least for my pool, I can only really make use of this product in the up right position. I'm sure that like most pool products this was probably made with larger in ground pools skimmers in mind where mine is an above ground. The result is that when this product is placed in my basket cone down, it's really difficult to get it to form a proper cyclone. The water level is either too high, but if I lower it, the cyclone will form but it then has a tendency to suck in air because the water level ends up so low in my skimmer that any waves in the pool drop the water level in the skimmer to dangerously low levels. But again, I think this has more to do with the design of my particular basket.Over all it works as advertised, but it's not the pancea I was hoping it would be. Solved one problem but caused another.

The surface of the pool water looks clean after putting the Cyclone on the skimmer basket.

Waste of money. No change to flow or any effect at all.

So skimmers work for most surface debris except that very light debris will continue to float at the surface of the skimmer vortex and never get sucked down. This gadget increases the velocity of the vortex so more stuff gets sucked down. It can be installed in an upward or downward configuration depending on the depth of your basket or skimmer hole if you don't use a basket. There is a 7" version and a 8" version be careful to get the right one for your skimmer. When you turn off the pump the cyclone tends to float upwards displaces itself so that the next time you start the pump it doesn't land perfectly back into the basket. So some have jerry riggged the thing to attach it directly onto the basket. Anyways, it works. It's a piece of plastic I think it's not really worth this price so that's why it's 4/5 stars.
