I've been using my 5x8 utility trailer for years without a spare, but I decided it was time to stop gambling. So I got a nice tire/wheel at a local store. Then decided the spare ought to be mounted on the trailer. It was very easy to mount this on my trailer's A frame hitch mount. Tire fit nicely between the trailer front and the actual hitch with plenty of room for the lift crank. The spare is mounted to this tire mount using non-fixed bolts with 3/4 inch nuts (including extra lock nuts to keep the wheel secure). This mounting wasn't as easy as the fixed nuts I have on my horse trailer, but this is a retro fit item for a reasonable price. I would recommend carrying an extra 3/4 inch wrench in your towing vehicle, as well as a lug wrench that fits the actual nuts on your trailer tires. But since the bolts on this tire mount are plenty long to make it easier to attach the spare tire, a lug wrench might not fit over the nuts to loosen.I picked this spare tire mount after looking at the many choices available here. The four sided bar between the trailer mount and the tire mount seemed a bit taller than others, and it was reinforced with a triangular metal piece. The chain was a nice added touch. You could use a padlock on it for a bit of theft protection, but it also is a bit of a safety feature.

It was a good buy, just wouldn't work for where I was mounting it.

The spare tire mount arrived soon after I placed the order. It is equipped with an iron chain, and each bolt is equipped with a non-slip nut with a nylon sleeve, which is very delicate and can prevent wear and tear. After receiving the goods, I spent nearly twenty minutes to install it. The best thing is the iron chain, which adds an insurance to my spare tire. This is very important, because my previous bracket did not have an iron chain. I don’t know when the nut loosened and it fell off while driving at high speed. Fortunately, it did not cause greater damage. Now I am no longer worried about this happening. After the installation, it did not shake, so I can drive safely on bumpy roads. Compared with the triangular trailer spare tire mount I bought before, the pentagonal plate structure of this new spare tire bracket does fit my spare tire better and is more sturdy, which makes me feel at ease when using it. Secondly, the supporting iron pipe in the middle of the Trailer Spare Tire Mount is more than 6 inches long, which makes my spare tire higher from the ground and not easy to touch the ground. I think this product is very clever and thoughtful, This is why I gave it five stars.and I will recommend it to anyone I know who needs it!

This tire mount may be good for trailers when mounted to the front A frame. I would not attempt to use this for a rear bumper mount on an RV trailer. The steel unit is solid enough but the steel is all a little thinner than I would prefer. This is likely okay for front of trailer mounting but there is a lot of shake and bounce at the rear of RV trailers which could cause the metal bracket to fatigue. The biggest issue for this tire mount is that a significant portion of the tire will hang below the bottom of the trailer frame. You are likely to have 7 to 10 inches of tire below the trailer frame depending on tire size. This reduction in ground clearance may be okay at the front A frame area but could cause ground contact at the rear bumper of an RV trailer. This may be the perfect mount for the front of a boat trailer but I would be cautious if using for an RV.

This is a nice little spare tire mount. It didn't work for me however. It says that 4" is the maximum width but that's not possible. The bolt that they include is less than 4". More like 3 7/8". They didn't account for the rather thin metal brackets, the two washers, the nut and the capture nut. Those parts, which are needed to mount the unit, are a little over an inch thick. It did mount to my front tongue frame, which is 2" thick. That's not where I want the weight of my spare. I need it mounted on the back to help balance the load and take weight off the tongue. This was a real bummer for me.It didn't give much height on the tire to ground clearance on my bumper either. I would have needed it to be taller, even if the bolts were long enough. It's not a bad unit, it just won't fit anything larger than 3". It's not a very beefy unit either. If you have large wheels, this is not for you. If you have medium to small tires and a frame 3" or less, this may be what you need. A pop-up camper or smaller travel trailer would be a good fit for this. I have a 32" dual axle camper with one of those 4" square bumpers that house the sewer line inside and it just didn't work out for me. My tires are to big and heavy for this mount. I need something with more heft and a few more inches of height.

Pros:1. Mounts solid.2. Easily holds a tire for a trailer or a spare for a vehicle.3. Construction seems well done and it feels sturdy.4. Very happy with purchase.Cons:1. None, this works as expected.
