Bought two of these to have as spares for my water troughs. Had to install one to replace an old float that started leaking. Once the new one was installed, I turned the water line back on to fill the trough. The float did not shut off the water when the trough got full and continued to seep. As you can see in the picture, the water level was completely covering the float body. This should not happen. I replaced the new valve with the second spare float and it did the same. My suspicion is the the float is undersized and doesn’t put enough pressure on the water valve seat.

This float works great, have it in for the goats and one for the horses. Has kept it full but not overfilling for months

This automatic float valve is a fairly basic piece. I know they have more expensive floats out there but I liked the idea of spending less to A) make sure it worked for me and B) I don’t know if this will be my long term solution. The unit is very lightweight. I will be interested to see how it holds up. But, again, for the price and given these are farm animals (who are hard on everything) even if it lasts for a season before winter I’ll be happy. Adjusting the float is simple. The unit simply turns the hose on and fills until the float starts to float. This is where level ground and the correct bucket type are key. I have had to play around with my current bucket. It’s rounded which is fine but not on level ground. I have stacked pavers to try to obtain that middle ground. If it’s not level the float is unhappy and continues to run which then floods the yard. Water intake around the farm is definitely up with the heat. This float valve has greatly helped me to keep my animals watered.

I have this in a portable water trough made from a protein tub. I'm sure it would work as well or better on a purpose built water trough but I like the small size of the tubs for moving the the watering points around the pasture with the cattle. The main issue I have with this float is that it is very sensitive to how level it is. In my application I don't really have time to properly set up the tank so it's level. When I do it works fine, but when the tank is on unlevel ground the water continues to flow and overflow the tank. So IMO there are better options.

Poor quality. Will not shut off all the way and keeps trickling in water. Bought two and they both do it. Spend a few more dollars and get the name brand ones.

Update: My rating is reduced from 5 stars to 3 stars due to a big problem that appeared after 1 week in the water,. The metal mounting hardware is already rusting. i have added a picture to show this. I'm disappointed the manufacturer didn't use hardware that won't rust, such as stainless steel. My original 5 star review follows:I like this float valve because it is easy to mount and hookup. I use it on a large resin planter tub that fills with water to supply a decorative fountain on my patio. Before I had this valve it was necessary to keep an eye on the water level and manually refill when low. Now this valve keeps the water level up so I don't have to.The pictures show how the valve easily mounts to the side of the tub with both inside and outside views before water is added. The valve accepts a standard garden hose at its top, so no special plumbing adapters are needed. Extra replacement parts for the valve are included as a bonus.
