This unique adapter allows precision centering of spindles or dowels at the tailstock end. Also, it provides the ideal system for the mounting bowls for hollowing; after turning the outside of the bowl blank, turn a tenon on the bowl bottom. Then mount your chuck to the tailstock using this adapter; grabbing the tenon with the chuck while still attached to the faceplate. When the chuck and blank is remounted on the headstock, your bowl will be perfectly centered.

The first one I received had a noticeable vibration and ticking sound in the bearing at speed. It was replaced quickly. The second one runs very smoothly and quietly, doing just what I was hoping it would do. The 1 x 8 threads are well made and attach my chucks well and straight, with minimal thread slop. The accessory bearing face of the threaded rotating part of this adapter measured a runnout of less than 0.001". When an accessory was mounted on this adapter verses the lathe headstock, the radial runnout at the working end of the accessory increased by 0.002' to 0.003", which, for me, is acceptable.

I mean, what can really go wrong? The ring that holds it together and holds the bearings in kept coming apart. A little Permatex after tightening fixed it. But tightening was quite difficult. After that it was flawless.

I used the 1" 8tpi center to hold my Longworth chuck to accurately glue up Segmented rings on urn. That placed each ring accurately and centered. In a glue press the rings can slip around and not be centered. Just wish it came in 1.25" 8 tip.

I wish it was lockable but I guess a wrench will hold it.

I ordered this with the idea of attaching a draw bar to it but the MT is not threaded, otherwise it seems to be a good product.
