I suspected my old carbon steel tap was worn out so I got these.. They cut thread like butter. I use them on a lathe which means they get run straight in like a self tapping screw which is much harder on taps than hand tapping is. They cut beautifully!

This product comes as a set of two 1/4" NPT taps. Please note that the edges of the flutes are extremely sharp (as they should be) and care must be taken in handling these taps. I measured these taps as well as I could, and they seem to be quite close to the desired measurements. I used each to tap threads into brass fittings and brass plate and had absolutely no trouble. Be sure to use cutting fluid during use since there is no hard coating applied to these taps. The cut threads were sharp, straight, and true. The taper was adequate for 1/4" NPT and the items I tried in those tapped threads tightened smoothly and straight. This product seems to work well enough for my needs and should be good enough for most users.

I'm using these to clean threads in PVC and iron pipe fittings. I'm not cutting new threads but they should work well for that. Just use lube and don't push them.
