The factory nut for my Washburn was too tall. I tried sanding it down and it’s cheap plastic so I sanded it too far down. I decided to replace it with a bone nut. I am always wary of ordering nuts from Amazon, as it’s almost never a good fit, but in this case it was perfect! I rounded out the slots a bit with my string files and I reduced the height ever so slightly on my big flat metal file. Didn’t even need to do that but I’m a perfectionist. It was way better than the factory nut with zero modifications.

My daughter had a hard time finding a nut for her mandolin. Just needed the assistance of a caliper. There seems to be a couple of standard sizes out there. This fit perfectly, no modifications.
