Full disclosure: I received this item through Amazon's Vine Program in exchange for an honest review, whether positive or negative. When I was in art school studying sculpture, we used smaller versions of these feathers and wedges to cut boulders and stone. Those small feathers and wedges could cut stone about half the size of a car. These larger feathers and wedges are designed to handle significantly bigger tasks, such as cutting stone straight out of a quarry, even as large as a full-size pickup truck. It’s always impressive how a small crack started with these tools can split a massive stone. For context, a marble block the size of a Ford F-150, weighing approximately 67 tons (135,200 pounds), can be split in half using these tools and a cordless rotary hammer drill. One practical use for these tools is when you need to remove a large rock obstructing a construction site but can't use explosives. They allow you to break the rock into manageable pieces that an excavator can handle. If you're new to these tools, here’s how to use them:1. Drill holes along the line where you want the stone to crack, ideally in a straight line.2. Insert the feathers into the holes, positioning them so they face outward, with the wedge placed in between.3. Gently tap the wedges using a drilling or engineer’s hammer, moving sequentially along the line.4. Once the wedges are properly aligned, gradually increase the force of your strikes—but avoid hitting too hard. The goal is to drive the wedges in a little at a time.5. Listen for a change in pitch as you strike the wedges; this signals that the stone is about to crack. When the stone splits, be cautious! Each half can roll away unpredictably and may weigh thousands of pounds, posing a serious risk of injury or death. Never attempt to stop a rolling stone. Stay alert and prioritize safety while using these tools. For reference, a block the size of a Ford F-150 weighs about 67 tons and can be cut in half with these wedges and a drill.
