Drill holes, set wedges, tap lightly, continue to cycle through tapping lightly. Repeat. Rock splits in two. Works great.

You never know what you're going to dig up in your backyard. I was digging up some stubborn roots to plant a new tree and ran into a huge rock. No easy way to pull that thing out in one piece, so I decided to try these out. They actually work surprisingly well, but you do need to be able to hit them with a heavy hammer, which is difficult to do when you're working below ground level. I was able to crack it into at least 4 pieces, but still had a tough time excavating them.I eventually bought an electric jackhammer, which made quick work of it. Modern technology for the win. I think these would be better used for delicate work when you want to preserve or shape the stones, but if you're just trying to break something into pieces to remove them, there are better options.

This type of wedge and a good, powered rock drill are what you really need for slitting LARGE boulders/rocks or even quarrying smaller outcroppings of rock. Be aware that drilling into large boulders and using this type of wedge will leave rather ugly marks or evidence that you have done so. This type of wedge and process is for rough work and not very good for blocks you want a good finish or appearance on. Those will require some more work or a different style of wedge. With that said, these are very good tools for the big jobs. This set of 6 is an addition to my collection of this style of wedge and allows me to split boulders the size of cars. Drill your holes no more than 6 to 8 inches apart and a foot deep if possible, in a straight line over the top and sides you can get to and, you can split with good results. No need for hard swings with your hammer. Use moderate and even force over all the wedges you have in the stone and these will split it. They will last you many years if you treat them right including a little oil while in storage to avoid rusting. Good quality wedges that will outlast the feather wedges that use thin, flat sheet steel style feathers.

These rock wedges and feather shims work incredibly well for splitting stone. The 7/10" size is ideal for smaller projects, and they’re easy to use. A great tool for anyone needing precision stone splitting without heavy machinery.

I haven’t given them a full depth test, but I can tell they’ll hold together and take a lot of whacks. Solid

I haven't had a chance to use these yet, but I can say they look to be very similar to my other ones in terms of quality. They are well finished. I see no reason they won't work just fine.

These rock breaking chisels are okay. They could be a little bit longer. That probably would make breaking larger rocks easier. But if you're breaking smallish large rocks then they probably work for you still much easier than just trying to smash the rocks up with a hammer though
