It's a bastard file. I have a set of Vallorbe files I use for finer work. This is no Vallorbe, but it doesn't need to be...it's meant for rough work anyway. Can't comment on hardness and durability until I've used it more, but taking off a star because of the misleading description. This file has nothing to do with Nicholson files. They're just trying to use the Nicholson brand to move product.

When I ordered this is was almost $19 which I thought was kind of steep. It's now less than $13 which is a good value. This is a really nice file - sharp and you can tell it's been hardened. It cut thru mild steel easily and smoothly. Should last a good long time
