Astromania 2” T-2 Ⅱ adapter - Focal camera adapter for SLR cameras

You can simply attach your camera to the telescope

A T-2 thread permits virtually any camera to be attached and subsequently connected to the telescope. For SLR cameras, for example, you will only need the correct T-ring for your camera model - it is that simple. The adapter has a 2” barrel on the telescope side which is compatible with 2” focusers. With a 50.8mm outside diameter and compact design, any possible shadowing is clearly reduced as compared to 1.25” adapters.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • 2" diameter T-2 focal adapter
  • fits into all 2“ focusers
  • T-2 external thread on the accessory side
  • black anodized to minimise reflections
  • filter thread for 2“ filters
  • safety groove

The safety groove design can provide a more stable connection and avoid falling off due to unstable connection.

Effectively reduce stray light interference, not only improve the brightness of the image, but also effectively reduce the dark edges formed, the edge details of the image are clearer.

This adapter has a standard 48mm (M48 x0.75) female thread to accept 2" astronomy filters.

I am very new to the astrophotography world, so this was for my very first set up. I was a little nervous when I bought this product because it was one of the only pieces to my set up that wasn’t Celestron branded. I was nervous about after market compatibility issues but It ultimately it worked perfect though for my needs though. For other total beginners out there, you will also need a t ring for your specific brand of camera and a 2” visual back if are currently using 1.25” accessories. I didn’t think about needing a visual back on my first might out and had to go home empty handed, hopefully this review saves someone else from the same fate. I have a Celestron 8 SE and bought this to connect it to a Canon T7i. I wish I could speak about how it compares to a 1.25” camera adapter, but I never owned one. I have a very beginners outlook on the hobby, but I figured the more light the better so I didn’t want to spend money on a 1.25” set up just to spend more money later to upgrade. So it is fair to take my inexperience into an account, but if I had to buy another set up again, I’d do it the same way.

The interior of anything inside the optical path should be very dark and flat black. I have both the 2" and 1.25" nosepiece from Astromania, and while the 1.25" is a little better, the 2" version has a very polished and reflective surface, potentially reflecting off axis light onto your sensor. By contrast, my fittings from Baader are flat black inside and out, but at twice the price.

Nice well made adapter. I thought the extra groove feature would be a positive (so it can't accidently slide out). In my case, the telescope focuser clamp can barely span the extra distance. A layer of electrical tape may work or I may pick up the other version without the extra groove. So check whatever your using it on first!

I've used the 1.25" but was concerned about how much support they would offer when I hung a bulky DSLR on the end. Switching up to the 2" adapter definitely improved how sturdy the mount felt, and allowed me to start using some of the 2" optics I have sitting around.

I purchased the Astromania 2" T-2 Camera adapter to be able to use a 2" Orion SkyGlow filter for imaging. The threaded filter does fit, but I can get the filter on only about 1.5 turns. It's on, but just. I've tried two different filters and it's about the same in both cases. I guess it will work, but I would really like to have more threads engaged. If I had a large enough tap, I'd attempt to clean out the adapter's thread, but that's cost prohibitive. I'd pass on this one.
