I have waited for a few weeks before writing this review on my new Bosch 1/2 sheet finish sander. I now have three completed projects under my belt using this wonderful finish sander. The projects consisted of a 7-drawer rolling chest of drawers, a 2-drawer rolling tool storage unit and 7 high end maple and walnut custom cutting boards. Here are my thoughts after these projects.1. The dust collection when hooked up to my Festool dust collection system is astonishingly effective. There is zero dust left uncollected.2. Perhaps even more remarkable, the supplied canister dust collector is almost as effective as the Festool dust collector. I am serious. The canister collects virtually ALL dust generated.3. The mechanism for clamping new sanding sheets is the best I have ever seen. It is very easy for these old, arthritic hands to operate and it tensions the new sheet better than any other system I have ever used.4. Being able to use any sand paper one desires is another nice feature. Most wood workers have their preferred brand and I am no exception. Being forced to purchase any consumable product which is only available through a tool's manufacturer causes me to bristle. This is not the case here with this Bosch sander. It comes with a "hole punching plate". After you have changed the sandpaper onto the tool, simply plunge it onto the hole punching plate and "goose" the trigger a couple of times, enlarging the holes as it oscillates. It works perfectly.5. As others have commented, the vibration has been reduced significantly.6. As one would expect from a half sheet sander, the tool is large enough to produce very flat surfaces.7. It did take me a bit of time to get used to Bosch's trigger lock mechanism. This is the secondary switch which locks the tool in the "on" position. Originally I felt it had been located awkwardly but after using the tool a while, I realized that it is meant to be activated with the side of the 1st knuckle of the thumb while the tool is in use.8. Personally, I don't fiddle with the variable speed wheel. I just don't see the point. I either want the tool "on" or I want it "off". When I want "less sanding", I change the paper to a finer grit. I just haven't come across a need for such a feature but maybe one day I will.I have used the tool for everything from rough sanding all the way down to finish sanding of Varathane with 400 grit paper between coats.Overall, this is definitely a "5-Star" worthy tool. It is versatile, powerful, well engineered, carefully manufactured and the dust collection is second to none. I have used other's Festool sanders and I would suggest that the Bosch sanders are every bit as good as what Festool is producing.FWIW, I also have the Bosch ROS65VCL (the round 5" OR 6" Random Orbital Sander) which is also an amazing tool. These are amazing tools. They are effective in their sanding abilities and the dust collection is better than any other tool I have ever used previously.............................even without a vacuum attached. I absolutely love this tool. These are the opinions of a life-long woodworker. I have been an avid, devoted hobbyist, semi-pro woodworker with more than 40 years under my belt.

The size is very nice and covers a lot of material at once. The orbital in the 1/2 sheet size does a great job and quick if you want it to. The dust collection with just the collector no Vacuum is good, but with the vacuum, seriously, No dust at all!!!the sander isn’t too loud, and the anti-vibration technology on it is absolutely hands-down, the best. You can sand all day with the thing and it’s not gonna bother you. Being that it’s a half sheet finishing sander you can flatten with it If you so shoes. And for the price, it’s cheaper than festool and just as good ifNot better.

Combine this with the Bosch dust extractor and it's a dream setup, high quality and heavy duty. Very expensive but worth it, if you want the best result possible in the least of time. I totally recommend both the dust extractor and this Sander. I mainly use them for drywall joint and the result is so professional, you don't need anything else this sander does everything, sanding with a block become a rare occasion. All my tools are high-end Bosch models, never had a single problem you get what u pay for and this is the most important.

I have owned a number of belt and orbital sanders. I purchased the Bosch half-sheet sander to replace a Milwaukee #6010 half-sheet sander. The pad that backed the sandpaper on the 6010 failed and Milwaukee no longer sells a replacement pad.The sandpaper clamps on the Bosch enable very easy exchange of sandpapers. The clamps draw the sandpaper taut as well as clamping it. The motor/handles upper structure is flexibly mounted to the sanding base. When the sander is going full bore the vibrations felt in the hands are minimal if existent. The Bosch makes far less noise than the 6010. The Bosch is the first sander I used with punched sandpaper. I was skeptical that the sander would pick up much dust. I actually had no need to be doubtful. The dust collection system is extremely effective. I don't see dust while using the sander. The filter can be used repeatedly. I am glad I didn't purchase a sander that uses throw-away paper filters. The sander is an engineering marvel and a delight to use. Kudos to the designers and manufacturer.

The sander worked as advertised and I recommend it to woodworkers as a tool that may save you significant money on a drum sander. I do a lot of glue ups for making furniture and this sander sands away any seams that make it pass my Bessy Kbody clamps. I only use it for sanding. Once my panels are sanded I use my random orbit sander to polish with grits 100 and up. The sander is heavy but that is good, the weight is an advantage in my opinion. It removes the temptation to press on the sander to hurry up the sanding process. I do not notice any vibration. Sand paper is easy to install using its unique attachment system. I use a Porter Cable dust collector vacuum with sander. The hose adapter I have on my vacuum fits the sander so dust is not an issue.

This is a very good orbital sander. Sandpaper is easy to load and the front clamp pulls the paper perfectly tight. It has plenty of power without transferring much vibration to the user, yet isn't to heavy. The dust collection works very well and the filter is easy to disassemble and clean.

More money than it's worth. Most difficult sander to control out of the 10 I own. Not the first time bosch tools have come up short.

Totally worth the investment if you have a lot of sanding to do. I would have spent much more renting from Home Depot to get my fence, shed and parts of my deck sanded. Compared to other brands / styles of sanders I used for this project I found the dust trap very easy to remove and empty. The anti vibration technology actually works. My hands weren’t numb or tingling after I was done. It’s not a light machine but it feels solidly built and not cheaply made.
