This is a handy dongle to keep in your laptop bag or at your workstation. I love the stowaway feature and the all black design. It works as expected and is good for extended display use. I had no problems using this on my Macbook nor Dell computers.

The unit is a nice compact shell with only a short flexible flat cable. Weights 39g (1.37 oz).I like that the VGA port has the screwholes still. Inside they are attached to the circuit board, but it would clamp the case so they should be sturdy. The outputs can't be used independently (this is not an MST hub). Whenever HDMI is attached the VGA port will use the same resolution as HDMI, but when I had only VGA attached Windows defaulted to 1024x768.Inside this unit is AlgolTek AG9421. This has some other features like power delivery, and independent audio, but those are not used in this product. The main part here is the HDMI and VGA converter. The HDMI output is 2.0 and supports up to 4096x2160p at 60Hz. It is HDCP 1.4 compliant. The VGA output uses three 8-bit DACs (16 million colors), and can output up to 1920x1200 at 60Hz.It also presents a USB device 25A4:9421 (USB C Video Adaptor). This allows firmware updates to the AlgolTek chipset, but I couldn't find any issued yet. AlgolTek did recently (Jan 2024) add support to fwupd for their device which is pretty cool if you're a Linux nerd.

This dongle is a foldable USB-C/Thunderbolt to HDMI and VGA dongle. It's the perfect companion for a road warrior who wants to make sure they can connect to any projector they encounter - while we all would like to believe the VGA connector is gone for good, it still shows up in some locations, and this one smartly includes it (even providing the screw holes needed to secure a cable). It's also quite compact despite the two included ports.I'm continuing to expand my collection of Cable Matters foldable dongles, and I love each new one just as much as the Ethernet one I reviewed first. This is the perfect design for taking a small adapter along with you in your bag. The male USB-C/Thunderbolt connector folds fully into the housing of the dongle, so it won't get damaged during transit. The final package is tiny and fits neatly into your bag without flopping around with a short length of rigid cable.I do still wish the case of the dongle was made of matte plastic rather than shiny, as I'm a bit concerned about how this will look after it's been kicking around in my cable kit for a few years. Not that I need my cables to look beautiful, but my experience has been that shiny plastic lasts less well. I've now had some of my earlier dongles for a while and they are getting a little scratched up, although the physical case has held up great. Now that I have multiple Cable Matters dongles, I also wish they'd silkscreened the purpose of the dongle on the top alongside their logo. There's a nice description on the bottom side, though, so it's easy to just flip it over to read that.I appreciate having this high-spec converter with me everywhere I go at a reasonable price. Well done, Cable Matters!

I was looking for a USB-C to HDMI adapter so I could load movies on my Samsung tablet and watch them on a TV while traveling. This tiny adapter did the trick. It's very small, making it great for travel. I was able to feed whatever was on the screen of my tablet, through the HDMI cable, to the HDMI input of the television. There didn't seem to be any loss in quality. While video fed through, the audio did not. Audio came out of the tablet speakers. Not perfect, but acceptable for travel use. The unit is about 2x2 inches and weighs almost nothing. With a short HDMI cable, it packs neatly into my carry-on. It's a great buy at this price.

This is exactly as described and pictured by the vendor. As a IT professional I routinely find myself working on other people computer stuff - including monitors. Many of which have 15 pin connections. The problem has always been that the computer on that wotk bench had a video card that does not have a 15 pin output on the video card which forced me to put an older video card in the computer just to check that one thing. Usually more trouble than it's worth.I no longer have to do that. This works great. Simply plug it into a USB 'C' port and I have a 15 pin VGA output port with a decent signal. No more changing video cards out at this station. I like that. Works as advertised.I find this to be a very good deal and a real time saver. Easy to recommend and I'm glad I got it.

The Cable Matters Portable USB C to VGA HDMI Adapter proved to be a smart addition to my toolkit. Bought for a laptop that's constantly on the move between workstations, this adapter opened up a world of monitor options. Its USB-C port transformed into a video powerhouse, seamlessly connecting to either one 4K@60Hz HDMI monitor or two 2K@60Hz HDMI/VGA monitors. A great solution for enhanced flexibility and productivity on the go!

I used this adapter to get my Mac to have a second display. It worked well as intended and I now have an extended display.

It's very lightweight - it's like a small plastic box that's completely hollow, weighing in at 37 grams. The plastic exterior is well finished and the overall design is very classy. The USB-C cable is square and foldable, which reduces the chances of the cable getting damaged or snapped in a bag or laptop case when you're in a hurry to throw it in. The supported ports are HDMI and VGA, but not both at the same time (depending on the laptop). The VGA port has a screw to secure the terminal, so you don't have a loose connection when using a beam projector in a meeting and distorting the screen. This is an important advantage. VGA supports up to 1080p and HDMI supports up to 4k 60hz. The cheaper USB-C variants only support up to 30hz, so this is also a plus. Laptops these days don't usually support HDMI or VGA, so these cable genders are essential, and I would say it's the most portable one available in the market today.

I run 4 monitors off of my graphics card but wanted to have a fifth monitor to be used for system monitoring. I installed the small fifth monitor and connected it to the motherboard's internal graphics. However, this did not work well as there was a conflict between my motherboard and the graphics card which would cause the screens to flash off then back on again periodically. Not too often, but enough to bother me.Looking for another solution, I decided to try out this device. As you can see in one of the photos, it is plugged into a USB C port that supports external graphics. In the other photo, you can see the small monitor it is then connected to. Also on the center monitor, you can see the configuration of the displays. It is monitor number 5.So far, there are no noticeable issues with this setup. It is working flawlessly. It is important to note, however, that not just any USB C port will work. Your device must support this feature. So, before you rush out to buy one of these, double check that your computer, laptop, tablet or phone does support video via USB. Most newer equipment does, but not all.For those who are curious, my mother board is an ASUS ProArt X670E-Creator WIFI. With my system, it was plug and play.In conclusion, if your equipment supports this device, then it is an easy way to set up a temporary (or permanent) extra monitor.
