I needed to identify which ethernet, speaker, and coax cables were which in my basement closet where the builder ran them all. Attach the transmitter to an ethernet outlet in a random room, then poke the tester against all the cables in the closet, listen for the signal, and voila! Not the heaviest duty product, nor would this be considered "professional," but did what I needed at the right price.

With the transmitter connected directly to the CAT5/CAT6/RG6 or telephone wire, it's easy to use the receiver to find the correct wire at the other end in the low voltage cabinet.But near the end of the first day of tracking rough-in low voltage wiring in a remodel, the negative alligator clip broke off from the wire (I lost the black boot.) And the red & black boots were slippery inside, making it somewhat difficult to grip it properly to attach the leads.I dug up some alligator clip test leads (pictured) that I used to finish up after the negative lead clip broke off.It would be nice to have also included a coax connector to trace out antenna/satellite cables. I made one up to use with the alligator clip leads (pictured).Oh, and the 9v battery I used in the transmitter tested good at the start of the day. Later on, the signal was obviously weak and the battery tested in the questionable range. The transmitter was in use almost the whole day. Keep a good spare battery handy.

This product works as advertised. However the quality is very cheap. Great items for a beginner. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get the results. This is an item for you.
